Summary

A Wilbur Smith series for listeners of 10 and above - starring 14-year-old Jack Courtney.

Jack Courtney has lived in the UK his whole life. But this summer his parents are travelling to the Democratic Republic of the Congo for a gorilla conference and they've promised to take Jack and his friends with them.

When his parents go missing in the rainforest, abducted by mercenaries, nobody seems to have any answers. Jack is pretty sure that it's got something to do with the nearby tantalum mines, but he needs to prove it. Along with Amelia and Xander, Jack must brave the jungle to save his parents. Standing in his way is a member of his own family - Caleb Courtney.

There are western gorillas, forest elephants and hippos. But there are also bandits, mercenaries and poachers. The three friends will need their wits about them if they are to save not only Jack's parents but their own lives too.

This is not Smith, like a teenagers story.

just not Wilbur Smith,. like a racy teenagers book. too short for a Smith and not even his style. I learned nothing, and knew the ending as it started.

looks like it is the end of the master.

Goodbye Wilbur

I am so surprised that Wilbur Smith allowed his name to this teenage fantasy

So disappointed that I did not quit after the first chapter. So predictable and such a lame story with very weak characters!

Poor

Having been an avid Wilbur Smith reader in the past I downloaded this book without any research. Oh dear. This is surely aimed at young teenagers.
Characters and story lack depth and all-in-all it was Much Ado about Nothing!

I wish that all youngsters could read this book.

I have become an avid Wilbur Smith fan since my husband bought me a subscription for Audible and as part of this I was sent Cloudburst, which is a children’s book as a free sample. I’m nearly 50 years old and I was curious to read it as I work in a school and read with children. I enjoyed it and thought that it is a great book for a young person to get absorbed into and then become hooked into the writing of Wilbur Smith etc. I wish that the older children in my primary school have access to material like this, especially boys as it can be more difficult to engage them, but this book was exciting and I know that they would enjoy it and the others in the series. Thank You, Audible.

Enid Blyton lives!

More like “Five go to the Congo”! Wilbur Smith didn’t come with a hundred miles of this story.

A twist to Smith's normal African storytelling

Wilbur Smith brings us a new Courtney chapter brought to life by Toby Stephen's storytelling.
