Summary
Faking a relationship with an injured hockey player had never been on Eliot's to-do list. When he's sent by his editor at Cocky to interview the newly out hockey legend Danny Harper, though, he gets a little more than he bargained for.
Eliot has been stuck writing a men's fashion and grooming column that no one reads since he started at Cocky - a men's lifestyle magazine - a year ago. Desperate to prove himself, he takes the assignment to interview Harper, even though he couldn't necessarily hold a hockey stick the right way up in an emergency.
Danny turns out to be nothing like he expected - a lonely man who's missed out on a lot by being in the closet rather than the overconfident jock Eliot expects him to be. As much as he doesn't want to be, Eliot finds himself drawn to the other man.
When Danny proposes they fake a relationship to improve his image, Eliot jumps at the chance - not only does he need the money, but his curiosity about Danny demands to be satisfied.
With Danny struggling to get through the season on a busted knee and Eliot digging up the story that could make his career, can the two of them admit their real feelings and find their happy ending?
Contains mature themes.

Nothing wrong
Why am I so distracted? I listened twice, and it can't keep my attention. It is well read, but a bland story.

good
This was a good sports romance. It was entertaining enough. There is nothing really unique about it. But it was ggod.
The narration was excellent.

Delightful
This is the first book of the series, I read the second one first but since they both can easily stand alone, it doesn't matter much which you read first.
This was a sweet story and once again I was happy that miscommunication wasn't used to drive the plot forward. This book offers a delightful and feel-good experience, perfect for those seeking light enjoyment.
🎧 I love Joel Leslie but I really didn't quite get what he was doing with Eliot's accent. It was still a good performance.

Easygoing sweet love story
Sweet M/M sports romance following hockey player Danny Harper newly ‘out’ as he meets and is interviewed by gay sports reporter Eliot O’Connor. Eliot isn’t in fact a sports reporter, but his editor sent him because he was gay, this did in fact ease Danny’s nerves. Although they hit it off and get along (doing a stellar interview), there is no insta love. They keep in contact and at the recommendation of Danny’s manager they start a fake relationship, during which time their friendship blossoms, and of course turns into something more. An easygoing sweet love story, no angst, a lot of chemistry and a little drama. I love it, and I loved Danny and Eliot. Joel Leslie narrated both parts beautifully.

Good book
I enjoyed the book. It was a gentle romance with a couple of surprises. Narration was good, though I think Joel Leslie over shot the Maine accent. At first, I thought it was more of a Brooklyn accent until I got used to it. I was still fine with the narration. At least I was able to tell the MCs apart.

Plot was thin and predictable
Well it started out all right and I quite liked the main characters. I like a good hockey book but I got very confused when I realised it was set in America because Joel Leslie's Australian twang made me think they were in Aus. Why would you choose a non-American reader to read this book? I quite like Joel Leslie but he was wrong here. He didn't really separate the two characters enough. They both had the same voice. Anyway, the book went downhill from the start. The plot was thin and predictable. The characters were shallow and too squeaky clean. I certainly wouldn't read another.

white noise
The story was bland at best. I fell asleep twice and had to listen to a few chapters multiple times because it simply didn't grab my attention.
One of the reasons it feels like a bad book is because either a 15-year-old wrote this, or the author did zero research on life, economics, LA, hockey, sports, or basically anything. He's a pro hockey athlete legend with a manager, and he acts like paying $500 a month in LA is a generous offer and a lot of money 😂 what?!!!! That's 16 dollars a day... a movie ticket costs more than that 😂
In one scene, the athlete busts his knee, and they're talking cute, and they decide to go home... home?! No way, they would run to therapy to check that the knee is ideally in place.
And the "Why do you get a car in LA?" chat made me laugh so hard.... has the author ever been to LA? It's literally called THE driving city because everyone has a car, and it's insane to use public transportation.
I'm sure if the author stuck to the quote "write what you know" Maybe, maybe their stories would feel less shallow and bland.
