Narration
Great story, but why have an American narrate the story very badly, pronunciation of place names and Tomatoes is laughable. Such a shame as other Peter Rimmer books I’ve listened to have been fantastic.

An interesting romp of a story ruined
Does anyone listen to the narration before releasing audio books. This is an example of a very good story spoiled by someone who has no idea of how to perform British regional accents and place names. He doesn’t pause between paragraphs and chapters causing confusion. Even slowing down the narration doesn’t help. I will be continuing the story in book form .

A Epic Story! Captivating and well performed.
A friend recommended this to me - not being much of a historical fiction buff, I still took a listen - and am sooo happy I did! I couldn't turn it off! Following the protagonist through his life of trials and tribulations (mostly wrought by the powers and overlords who manipulate all our lives) was both fascinating and, well, unnerving.
The story flowed well with only a couple minor confusions (that I remedied by re-listening to a couple of chapters) and the vivid imagery in the prose was engaging.
Having done some amateur narration myself, I was quite happy and impressed with the narrator and his many character voices as well as some nice additions of music and sound effects (several exciting radio-drama like scenes!). I appreciate the effort that goes into both the writing and performing of such a full and engaging story.

Dreadful!
The narrative was abysmal. It was worse than bad! Robotic and sounded like it was not a person reading it. The women’s voices sounded like a comic version of female voices, and quite frankly I found it offensive to to portray women in this way!
The storyline was uneventful. If you are undecided whether to read or listen, I’d get the book. Quite honestly, I’d save my money.
