Summary

Ishmael Jones is faced with a dead body and a missing mummy in this highly entertaining, genre-blending mystery.

“Death shall come on swift wings to whoever desecrates this tomb....”

Ishmael Jones and his partner Penny have been summoned to remote Cardavan House, home of the world’s largest private collection of Ancient Egyptian artefacts, for the unveiling of George Cardavan’s latest acquisition: a bona fide Egyptian mummy.

When a bloodstained body is discovered beside the empty sarcophagus, Ishmael is dismissive of the theory that the mummy’s curse is to blame. Instead, he sets out to uncover the human killer responsible. But how can Ishmael explain the strange, shuffling footsteps that creep along the corridors? Who is playing games with them...and why?

Predictable

The same story has been told in so many forms and this has nothing to distinguish it from what has gone before: a country house where each member is picked off one by one, until the hero rescues the characters who have escaped the demonic force. There is no surprise twist in the tale and the character traits are unimaginative.

best one in the series so far

perfection from start to thrilling end. Simon R, Green has really done it this time. the plot line is a lot more straigt in this book the the previous ones and the Narrater does an amazing job in given the persons life and personality

Another unique story , loved it a very modern take of Sherlock Holmes. If you threw in a murder in a locked room and and alien killer

Good, for young teens warning: mild spoilers!

This is the third or possibly the fourth book in this series that I have listened to (they tend to blur).
They are very well read and the storyline is somewhere between Doctor Who and the Alex Veres series by Benedict Jacka. The latter being far superior but for an older age group.
These stories are great in a light hearted way but very formulaic, many of the same gestures and comments repeated throughout. The two main characters are called to some kind of stately home and people are picked off one by one. There follows many chapters of pointless dialogue and blame while everyone insists on splitting up, and then the finale ties it up with a bow… sometimes with a few survivors.
Not bad, but each book has felt like a copy of the previous one.
Lockwood & Co, Scarlett & Brown and the Veres books are on a similar vein, but go far deeper.

an amusing take on the murder mystery

I've not read the previous books so had no idea of who or what Ishmael is, but an entertaining story nonetheless

perfect mix

I loved this book. Sufficient background of the main character is explained in the prologue to suggest there is a lot more to discover. This atmosphere builds and soon the story arrives in the sinister, isolated country pile where the mystery unfolds. I liked the Agatha Christie type characters in and the narrator was excellent. it is exciting and easy to listen to but sufficiently intricate to keep you guessing.
I am in looking for another Simon Green already.
