About this listen

Doc Martin arrives in the picture-postcard fishing village of Portwenn, Cornwall. Once a high-flying London surgeon, his suddenly developed blood phobia means he has to take a job in a local practice. But while the Doc's medical skills are second to none, his bedside manner leaves a lot to be desired. He immediately starts infuriating the locals, none more so than school teacher Louisa Glasson....

Sam North is a screenwriter and author of eight novels, including The Automatic Man which won the Somerset Maugham Award, and The Unnumbered, which was long-listed for the Man Booker Prize.

Brilliant, just like the TV series.

The narration was so good, it took you to Cornwall, get it and you won’t be disappointed, I promise you.

A wonderfully read story

Took me right back to Cornwall. The audiobook is well read and paced. Similar to the tv series of doc Martin but made more gently.

Great fun, easy listening.

fun and a lighthearted listen. I liked the narrator, although the 'cornish' accent irritated me slightly as it sounded more Bristol than Cornish, as always happens with both TV and audiobooks! Otherwise I enjoyed the book (preferred the audio book to the TV programme) and would recommend it, just hope they bring out another one soon!

Enjoyable

What a down-to-earth and heart-warming tale of an eccentric country doctor's life and people around him.
The subtle humour is the cherry on the cake.

Recording needs editing

I liked the storyline and the narrator was good. What spoilt it was the sound editing. There were missing sections, so slight jumps in the story and repeated words or sentences. This happens during cutting and re-recording sections. That should have been picked up during proof listening. Saying this, it was still enjoyable, hence the score.

Can't wait for next book. Narrator was excellent & actually sounded like Martin Clunes. Memorable moment was when Louisa kissed him

Just perfect

A perfect listen from beginning to end. I was there, every step of the way with Dr Ellingham.
There are only 2 Doc Martin books. How I wish there were more!

Adored the TV series so delighted to see the audiobook. Brilliantly written around the script and great narration - Mark Meadows manages to sound just like Martin Clunes which makes it all the better. Hope they will keep the series going!
