About this listen

An explosive, unforgettable thriller from Jo Spain!

For one week, everything in Luke Miller's life is perfect. Surprised with a belated honeymoon by his wife, Rose, he's had seven days with her in a Caribbean paradise. It's more than he ever thought he'd deserve.

But as they pack their bags, Rose breaks down, confessing that on the day they left London, a violent man from her past tracked her down and broke into their home. He wasn't expecting her to fight back. And, in her terror, Rose killed him. Now there's a dead body in Luke's apartment, and only one person he can think to turn to.

Mickey Sheils never expected to hear from Luke again, not after he disappeared the first time. Luke knows Mickey can't deny a woman who needs help, so she promises she'll deal with things - she'll make sure Rose doesn't have to keep running.

But it turns out, some lies are too big to run from.

Meh…

I usually enjoy Jo Spain novels but this one felt a bit flat. Great story line but needed more darkness. I think the narrator shouldn’t use deeper tone male voices. It’s extremely off putting. Generally just a little predictable and underwhelming.

Story was ok but I stayed for the narration

I loved Jo Spain's Tom Reynolds series but her stand alones - not so much. This one started off great but the 'great reveal' and final twist was meeehhhh for me.

Aoife Mcmahon though, great narration!! She can read the most boring stuff and I'll still enjoy it and listen to the end. This story was not amazing but it's NOT boring and with Aoife Mcmahon's narration, an otherwise 3.5 stars book is now a 4.5 from me!

AMAZING

I took a chance on a Jo Spain novel on sale a while ago and am so glad I did. Most of the sale audiobooks I have bought, I’ve either had trouble getting into or never got excited enough to give them a go. This is my second Jo Spain novel and it’s worth every penny I wasted on the other sale books.

Jo has a beautifully fluid and engaging writing style that pulls you in right from the start. Her characters seem so real, that you can’t help feeling for them despite their flaws which Jo crafts with real feeling and understanding.

The production values are exceptionally high and the narrator has a beautifully melodic voice that seems to glide effortlessly through the narrative.

I can’t recommend this book enough.

Fabulous story.. couldn’t put it down

Loved the book .. the story is filled with twists and turns.
The narrator has a beautiful voice but struggled with the men’s voices… otherwise totally recommend.

Plot twist

I’m a fan of Jo Spain books.. love the twist and turns. Really not sure what to make of the characters in this book, all a little good and not so good, some questionable pasts balanced with trying to make amends… certainly makes it interesting - one minute you like a character then you don’t and then you do .. and so it goes on .. also love Aoife, the narrator .. if I see a book narrated by her I generally know it’s going to be good from that angle.

Enjoyable

entertaining and enjoyable. Lukes accent was awful but the story was good enough. Not the best Jo Spain book!
