Summary

The battle for sovereignty over the realms reaches a devastating turning point as the international bestselling fantasy series continues.

All that stands between the advancing army of trolls and the endangered fortress of Phylangan is a coalition force led by Alfadas, human hero and protector. He’s amassed his own legion of swordsmen, elves, and ragtag thieves to stave off the enemy. And the next move they make could be the most dangerous one of all.

Those Alfadas has left behind are more vulnerable than ever - including his star-crossed elven love; their newborn child; and Queen Emerelle herself, who remains comatose and is powerless to safeguard her compromised kingdom.

But as Alfadas risks all in the violent campaign of the realms, the fate of Phylangan trembles ever more as the enemy advances. However tenuous Alfadas’s victory is, what he fears most is what will be left of the homeland he abandoned…

Absolutely Incredible! Shame about abridgement!

Phenomenal book, this series by Bernhard Hennen has quickly become my favourite fantasy series, up there in terms of depth, storytelling, world building and all round ‘european-ness’ as LoTR.

Emotional, engaging, inspiring and heroic. Could easily be an old Nordic folk saga.

As with the last book, the quality of translation by Edwin Miles was impeccable, and the narration by Michael Page extremely easy to listen to, engaging and well performed.

My only complaint, as with the previous release in the series, is that Elven Queen was HEAVILY abridged! I only wish that full length translations would be done with all the other details, descriptions, world building and plot elements that are lost in abridgement. Unfortunately it makes the story disjointed at times, and I feel it is quite a tragedy that so much of Bernhard Hennen’s intricate details are lost!

You are essentially getting half a book:
German Edition: 31hrs 13m / 928 pages
English Edition: 12hrs 35n / 331 pages

Less than half a book really, closer to 1/3rd of a book! Absolute tragedy. It would be so much better if the story was left in its original, complete, UNABRIDGED format!

As someone who loves the series I hope they come out with a complete translation at some point, otherwise I may have to consider learning German!

Spectacular conclusion to a gripping saga

Michael Page narration is a always spot on and the story is exciting non - stop mayhem from beginning to end. The world and settings are exceptional. Perfect pace and level of detail - if you're a mythical creatures sword swinging fantasy fan then this book has all that and then some. Loved it
