About this listen

The final book in the Blood on the Stars series...

The human powers have been pushed to the brink, battered, and almost destroyed. The virus they have invented and deployed, their sole possibility for victory, seems to be too little, too late. Its usage has only spurred the enemy to quicker action, to finish the war before they have to deal with its effects.

But the humans do not know that the Highborn are faced on another front, by a race they know little about but have battled for two centuries. The Highborn have decided to try to end that war, too, to lash out with all of their forces to eradicate the enemy, and to impose peace onto the galaxy...the peace of their own, undisputed rule.

As the Highborn begin to lash out on both fronts, to complete the victory they believe is theirs, both of their foes dig in, bringing forward everything they can, fighting with all both sides have to defeat the Highborn, to secure freedom in the galaxy. There is titanic warfare all around space, massive fleets fighting desperately...but only one side can prevail and rule space for the next 10,000 years.

This is the titanic conclusion to the 18-book Blood on the Stars series. If you haven't explored any of it, start with book one, Duel in the Dark.

For those who have listened to the entire series, I hope you enjoy this one, and I am working on my new series now, which will be released in a few months.

Ok, but…

Having listened all the previous titles in this series, I was keen to hear the last one. This book, more than all the previous ones, struck me as very repetitive. The same background information or situational context was repeated so many times that it began to infuriate me at times. Story was ok and it wrapped up the series as I thought it might. Performance was great, as usual from this narrator.

A Saga

Not in a good way. A reasonable story but padded to the extreme. A story that could have been told in less than 10 volumes ended up taking nearly 20. Taking advantage of the punters pocket I think.

Phoned in, this was a poor book

Book was poorly written, repetition over and over about the same thing, "He thought this about this but that's because in thinking this he would get this but only if he thought this"

I understand its hard to end a book series so long but there was just no substance at all.

Overall good series

The end is here, but it's also a new start.

In my initial exploration of the Blood On The Stars series, I approached it with a degree of uncertainty, primarily influenced by the reviews of the concluding volumes. However, I decided to embark on the journey, beginning with the first book. To my surprise, I found myself immersed in the narrative, progressing swiftly through the series and thoroughly enjoying each installment.

While it is true that there are instances of repetition and filler content, these elements serve to provide a deeper understanding of the characters' perspectives and the evolution of their lives as the story unfolds. I strongly encourage potential readers to disregard any negative reviews and embrace this captivating saga.

Regarding the conclusion, the final book delivers a satisfying resolution to the overarching story arc and its various plotlines. The author successfully navigates the challenge of catering to a wide audience after an extensive 18-book narrative, maintaining a sense of dignity and logical coherence throughout.

One minor inconsistency lies in the absence of a significant character from the final book, despite their prominent role in previous installments. This omission raises questions and leaves a sense of incompleteness.

Please no more internal monologues

Don’t get me wrong I’ve loved the series but I’ve listened to over 400 books on audible and never felt compelled to type before. But for the love of all that’s holy please no more constantly repeated internal monologues. I’d rather the book was 10hours rather than 15h, 5 of which I’ve heard before. Thank god for the forward button.

Just to long

Loved the series up until these last two books.
This last one was particularly hard for me to listen. Long monologs, short action. And end of story really disappointing. Shame really.

Performance. Superb as usual.

Continuity issues

Repetition and continuity issues. Series has deteriorated in attention to detail, characters given wrong titles, ship capabilities changed between chapters. Not sure if editting failure but not good enough. The story mostly maintained pace but will not look out for new books by author.

Betrayed

What a horrible, low effort, betrayal of your audience. Honestly, the only original writing was the astonishingly bad epilogue, the rest of the book was redundant and nauseatingly epilogue. I understand the author being done, but he completely failed to raise the bar one last time to give a satisfying conclusion.

Long, repetitive and empty

The performance was good as always, but the story was hour upon hours of every character having the same drawn out internal debate as the last repeating the same viewpoints over and over again. The most frustrating listen i've ever had. A stark downgrade in quality from the rest of the series.
