Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The gripping thriller from the #1 bestselling author of The Couple Next Door.

Welcome to Stanhope - a safe neighbourhood. A place for families.

William Wooler is a family man, on the surface. But he's been having an affair, an affair that ended horribly this afternoon at a motel up the road. So when he returns to his house, devastated and angry, to find his difficult nine-year-old daughter Ella unexpectedly home from school, William loses his temper.

Hours later, Ella's family declare her missing.

Suddenly Stanhope doesn't feel so safe. And William isn't the only one on his street who's hiding a lie. As witnesses come forward with information that may or may not be true, Ella's neighbours become increasingly unhinged.

Who took Ella Wooler?

Nothing will prepare you for the truth.

The ending was a total disappointment . The narration was very good. Enjoyed it until the last chapter.

The ending was so disappointing. It totally fell flat. Was there a final chapter missing. Ruined the book

First Audio Book

This is the first audiobook I have listened to and I was hooked straight away, I stumbled across the book in a local shop and was intrigued after reading the synopsis, I don’t read much at all so figured I’d try an audio version.
The performance from January LaVoy is great, she really hooked me with her change of tone for each character and how clearly she came across, I found her really interesting to listen to, like my favourite literature teacher back when I was in school. The story was great and kept me guessing the whole way through. I listened to it on journeys to and from work and couldn’t wait to get back in the car each time to listen to it some more. I even didn’t call my parents on one of the journeys as I normally do. Sorry Mum. All in all, great story and even better performance and will definitely listen to another one written by Shari and/or narrated by January, providing I’m as hooked by the synopsis.

Fabulous

Another great Shari Lapena story, with all the twists and unexpected turns you want from her novels. Some are obvious and some unexpected, but at a pace where y out keep doubting who did the kidnap.

And a great, and unexpected end, where just know you want the real story to unfold.

Brilliant story and fantastic narration

Good plot

Ending pathetic. Read like the author got bored and just wrote one sentence to close it and walk away.

Intriguing at points

It held my attention in large parts, interesting character development and build up. Just felt the age of the child character, got me questioning things in terms of actions/ decisions towards end of book, which made it a little disappointing in the end for me.
