About this listen

Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts.

When asked simple questions about global trends - why the world's population is increasing; how many young women go to school; how many of us live in poverty - we systematically get the answers wrong. So wrong that a chimpanzee choosing answers at random will consistently outguess journalists, Nobel laureates, and investment bankers.

In Factfulness, Professor of International Health and a man who can make data sing, Hans Rosling, together with his two longtime collaborators Anna and Ola, offers a radical new explanation of why this happens and reveals the 10 instincts that distort our perspective.

It turns out that the world, for all its imperfections, is in a much better state than we might think. But when we worry about everything all the time instead of embracing a worldview based on facts, we can lose our ability to focus on the things that threaten us most.

Inspiring and revelatory, filled with lively anecdotes and moving stories, Factfulness is an urgent and essential book that will change the way you see the world.

An eye opener and leveller...

A very interesting book with many well explained facts and ways of reviewing and looking at what your first impression might be of something. Also very topical at the time I listened to it, as there are mounting conspiracies around COVID-19. This helps explain away a lot of them...

The narrator is excellent and I’ll certainly choose more read by Simon Slater in the future as for me, it’s one of the most important details of an audiobook.

We need to
Learn how we function as humans in order to tackle our more and more complex society and the reactions that we have to news and facts.

A true reflection of human progress. Thank you!

Possibly the most insightful, critical thinking and intellectually uplifting piece I have ever read or listened to.

Really worth a read

Really worth a read. Provides valuable insights into truth and a warning against blending reality and fiction.

Deeply inspiring and moving

Incredibly insightful. How strange that a book on facts could affect me so profoundly. Brilliant.

Everyone on the planet should read this book

This book is life changing! When I started I was very sceptical/skeptical about what Hans Rosling was purporting and it took me a while to 'hear' what he was truly saying. It was difficult not having the graphs/bubble charts in front of me, though as I was cleaning at the time that was not possible! I have still not gone to the PDFs but have looked at Gapminder online where indeed the bubble graphs live. I am now buying the paper book version and sending a copy to everyone in my family. This is an absolute MUST READ! Buy it! Listening while busy was great as it got me past that inital wariness. Have to say that near the end the hair stood up on the back of my neck as he almost perfectly described this year's pandemic. Buy this book!!
