The Abolition of Sex

Story
Most Americans do not understand the real threat that the “transgender” agenda, or the so-called “gender identity” movement, poses to all of us—especially women and girls—nor do they understand the extent to which it is taking over US law and civil society. The simple truth is that “gender identity” functions to abolish sex, and all of our civic institutions—government, media, academia, and business—have been completely captured by it.

Story
Material Girls is a timely and trenchant critique of the influential theory that we all have an inner feeling known as a gender identity, and that this feeling is more socially significant than our biological sex. Professor Kathleen Stock surveys the philosophical ideas that led to this point, and closely interrogates each one, from De Beauvoir's statement that, 'One is not born, but rather becomes a woman' (an assertion she contends has been misinterpreted and repurposed), to Judith Butler's claim that language creates biological reality, rather than describing it.

Teenage girls are taking courses of testosterone and disfiguring their bodies. Parents are undermined; experts are over-relied upon; dissenters in science and medicine are intimidated; free speech truckles under renewed attack; socialized medicine bears hidden consequences; and an intersectional era has arisen in which the desire to escape a dominant identity encourages individuals to take cover in victim groups. Every person who has ever had a skeptical thought about the sudden rush toward a non-binary future but been afraid to express it - this book is for you.

Story
Gender identity ideology is about more than Twitter storms and using the right pronouns. In just 10 years, laws, company policies, school and university curricula, sport, medical protocols, and the media have been reshaped to privilege self-declared gender identity over biological sex. People are being shamed and silenced for attempting to understand the consequences of redefining "man" and "woman". While compassion for transgender lives is well-intentioned, it is stifling much-needed inquiry into the significance of our bodies.

What is it that causes us to blame women who have been abused, raped, trafficked, assaulted or harassed by men? Why are we uncomfortable with placing all of the blame on the perpetrators for their crimes against women and girls? Based on three years of doctoral research and 10 years of practice with women and girls, Dr Jessica Taylor explores the many reasons we blame women for male violence committed against them.

A worldwide best seller, translated into more than 12 languages, The Female Eunuch is a landmark in the history of the women’s movement. Drawing liberally from history, literature and popular culture, past and present, Germaine Greer’s searing examination of women’s oppression is at once an important social commentary and a passionately argued masterpiece of polemic. Probably the most famous, most widely read book on feminism ever.

Radical feminist author Andrea Dworkin was a caricature of misandrist extremism in the popular imagination and a polarizing figure within the women's movement, infamous for her antipornography stance and her role in the feminist sex wars of the 1980s. Last Days at Hot Slit brings together selections from Dworkin's work, both fiction and nonfiction, with the aim of putting the contentious positions she's best known for in dialogue with her literary oeuvre. It includes “Goodbye to All This” (1983), a scathing chapter from an unpublished manuscript.

In The War on the West, international best-selling author Douglas Murray asks: if the history of humankind is a history of slavery, conquest, prejudice, genocide and exploitation, why are only Western nations taking the blame for it? It’s become, he explains, perfectly acceptable to celebrate the contributions of non-Western cultures, but discussing their flaws and crimes is called hate speech. What’s more it has become acceptable to discuss the flaws and crimes of Western culture, but celebrating their contributions is also called hate speech.

Too often, we blame women. For walking home alone at night. For not demanding a seat at the table. For not overcoming the odds that are stacked against them. This distracts us from the real problem: the failings and biases of a society that was not built for women. In this explosive book, feminist writer and activist Laura Bates exposes the systemic prejudice at the heart of five of our key institutions.

What do the attacks in London Bridge, Manchester and Westminster have in common with those at the Charlie Hebdo offices, the Finsbury Park Mosque attack and multiple US shootings? They were all carried out by men with histories of domestic violence. Terrorism begins at home. Terrorism is seen as a special category of crime that has blinded us to the obvious - that it is, almost always, male violence. The extraordinary link between so many tragic recent attacks is that the perpetrators have practised in private before their public outbursts.

Summary
Feminism is a quest for the liberation of women from patriarchy. Feminism strives for a world in which women are not oppressed. Feminism prioritises exposing and ending male violence towards women and girls.
This is Julie Bindel's feminism, a definition born of 40 years at the front line of the feminist movement. Why then, she asks, is feminism the only social justice movement in the world that is expected to prioritise every other issue before pursuing its own objective of women's liberation? Why does the movement appear to be moving backwards, accommodating the rights and feelings of men and leaving women in the cold? Women make up half the global population, yet why is feminism still treated as a minority movement?
In this searing and groundbreaking book, Bindel deconstructs the many pervasive myths about feminism - Do women really want what men have? Can men be feminists? Are women liberated by sexual violation? - assessing whether feminism has achieved its goals and debunking theories that second wave feminism is irrelevant and one-dimensional.
Bindel shines a light on the most important issues, including pornography, sexual violence and prostitution. Drawing on Bindel's own experiences, as well as countless interviews with women and girls of all ages and backgrounds (as well as contributions from commentators such as Gloria Steinem and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie), Feminism for Women presents a clear-sighted view of why feminism is a proud social movement that every woman on the planet benefits from.
The invisible forces of misogyny affect us all.
This book is a call to arms to reclaim feminism for all women.
Only together can we resist and overcome.
Critic reviews
"Timely, necessary and important." (J.K. Rowling)
"[This book is] guaranteed to remind us what we have still to fight for. I can't think of a single person who wouldn't benefit from reading it." (Observer)
"Bindel delivers a robust call to arms in every chapter...this book could not be timelier.... As a young feminist who has finally seen the light, I consider it essential reading." (The Critic)
"Bindel is a rock star of second-wave feminism...an important, courageous book." (The Times)

Thank you Julie Bindel
For being brave and speaking out to help protect us. You are an inspiration.
A call to action for everyday acts of rebellion against the patriarchy. And thank you for fully explaining how men can manipulate and twist everything to maintain power especially with all the current trans rows.
It seems that the patriarchy always feels it needs to be right despite evidence and logic and statistics.

I'm a man and I loved this book
What a fantastic book. if you're looking for well researched and logical arguments for the liberation of woman then this is for you. No topic escapes Bindel's intelligent and determined gaze. Need a reasoned critique of 'trans issues' look no further. Want a view from the coalface of campaigning for womens rights over decades? This is for you. Some of her points threw up more questions for me and maybe we'll never agree 100% but an absolute solid gold eye opener nonetheless. Woman or Man, read this book and get your placards out.
P.S. For the record, I'm not a feminist. I can't be. I'm a man.

Feminism 101 - no filler, no waste, no bull. Julie hits the nail on the head on every page(audio wise!). It is uncomfortable for us men to realise the extent of the sexism and privilege we exude but it is argued convincingly and honestly by JB. The violence of prostitution/sexual abuse etc that women and girls face is the crisis we all need to face up to and defeat. Brava Julie!

A difficult read in some places because of the absolute honesty about the lives of many, many women on this planet.
