Summary
Ellen Hart was named the 2017 MWA Grand Master, the most distinguished lifetime achievement award offered in the mystery community.
In Fever in the Dark, Fiona and Annie return home from their one-year anniversary trip to discover that their poignant proposal video has been posted on YouTube and has garnered hundreds of thousands of hits. The video is on the verge of going viral, and there's enormous media interest in Fiona and Annie, as their fame comes just on the heels of the Supreme Court's decision to legalize gay marriage across the country. As some of the attention starts to turn vicious, Fiona pulls in an old friend, private investigator Jane Lawless, to help separate the harmless threats from the potentially harmful.
As the media storm continues to grow, Fiona revels in the attention, but Annie is furious. Fiona has always known that Annie has secrets, but her newfound notoriety threatens to bring Annie's past straight to their door. And then, when a murder occurs and Annie and Fiona are both suspects, it's up to Jane to prove their innocence - although the more she learns, the more she starts to wonder whether they actually are innocent.
Ellen Hart will once again captivate readers with her trademark smart, clever, mystery plotting and rich, human characters.

Not my favourite, but still a good read
Wow, book 24! It feels like only yesterday I started book 1! Fever in the Dark is still a solid Jane Lawless instalment, however I felt like Jane was sidelined in this one. It seemed like she was barely there and her “sleuthing” seemed an afterthought. The story is told more from the perspective of the “guest star” characters, Jane is quite literally only lurking in the shadows. Also a lot of the regulars were missing from the narrative altogether (Nolan, Hattie, Ray, Peter & Co) and Cordelia seemed less than her normal self somehow? On a separate note, something I have noticed running though the last through books is the absolute venom thrown at Julia. Re-cast as the Arch nemesis (for “being an evil manipulative liar” - let’s be honest, she never lied about anything relevant to Jane or their relationship, her professional life is separate to her personal one after all! Jane demanded to know things that were not her business, and when Julia did not instantly cave she was suddenly evil incarnate. Despite one future girlfriend lying about first her identity, then every other aspect of her life to Jane, and another being a depressive, alcoholic cheat, it is only Julia that ever faces such harsh condemnation and hatred) let’s just say Julia gets dealt an even rougher hand than usual in this book! That said however, it was still a decent listen, and will definitely be downloading the next one straight away. An addictive, highly recommended series! 5 stars

24th Jane Lawless mystery
The Jane Lawless series is still one of my favourite lesbian PI protagonist series. it is very well written with great characters and good mystery storylines. I do have to say that I miss a bit of the Jane from the first instalments and the banker with Cordelia, but I will still happily read or listen to the rest of the books in the series
the performance of the reader is good and fits the story for this audible instalment
