Summary

The girl with no past.

Six years ago, Evie Cormac was discovered, filthy and half starved, hiding in a secret room in the aftermath of a shocking crime. Now approaching adulthood, Evie is damaged and self-destructive and has never revealed her true identity.

The boy who survived.

Forensic psychologist Cyrus Haven, a man haunted by his own past, is investigating the death of champion figure skater Jodie Sheehan. When Cyrus is called upon to assess Evie, she threatens to disrupt the case and destroy his ordered life. Because Evie has a unique and dangerous gift - she knows when some is lying. And nobody is telling the truth.

Good Girl, Bad Girl is an unnerving psychological thriller from one of the greatest crime writers of today, Michael Robotham, best-selling author of The Other Wife and The Secrets She Keeps.

Twists and turns

Wow, a page turner and Michael Robotham’s new character doesn’t disappoint.
A true physiological thriller, his insight into the subject is inspiring and used to its best advantage. AAA *
There are many reviews giving you the plot, therefore the above will suffice.

Marvellously interwoven threads of plot!

Another fantastic stand - alone novel from Mr Robotham, ( but with the tiniest of nods to Joseph O'Loughlin at the end to ensure avid readers know that he still resides in the author's mind.)
A great read all round: I definitely recommend the novel to any fan of this genre, whether or not you've enjoyed Michael Robotham before, because they get better and better each time.

One of the Worst!

I forced myself to listen to this because I had returned two books that were excellent, but too violent, and this had good reviews. What a mistake and waste of a credit! The narration was terrible, and the voices given to some characters so terrible it made them fairly detestable so that it wasn't possible to be sympathetic towards them. The narrator himself has a nice voice, so why didn't he use it? Why distort it to make people sound idiotic?
The story was weak, one of the main protagonists, the psychologist, could hardly string an intelligent sentence together and would a young man hoping to study law at a leading university be incapable of any articulate speech beyond a few grumps?
I will go back to some classics now. Fed up of mediocre plots and bad writing.

Oh Michael, what have you done?

I have noticed this sad phenomenon before - authors go that little bit past their limit and squeeze out a few more books when they really have run out of juice. Publishers collude because they can sell books with a much reduced advertising budget. I should have been warned when I read this author’s last book, which was extremely weak. Cara Hunter is going the same way but I expect we’ll have at least another 20 or so in her series. I can’t criticise the authors and publishers because I’m at fault for buying books based on the author’s longevity! Much as I like a twist, I don’t like the entire turgid book to be constructed around it. And this twist wasn’t even very good. The narrator didn’t help. I got the feeling he was told to drop his natural voice and the effect throughout was that he was being gently strangled. Potential readers should ignore the gushing reviews from PR people (“OMG!! Stayed up all night to read this! Hurry up with the next book please!) and read the comments from real people, including mugs like me!

Without being too insulting to the narrator, you can’t do female voices

Oh my goodness, I cannot listen to the narrator anymore, returned!
Please don’t put on voices like this.

Absolutely first rate

As you'd expect from Michael Robotham - a good plot with main characters that you care about. Surely we are going to hear more of Sirius and Evie. I certainly hope so. Joe Jameson, a new narrator for me, was absolutely up to the mark.

Another good one from the author

Michael Robotham always writes good books! I wish I haven't read them all so I could read them again! Great storyline.

Good read from Robotham but not as good as others

If I am honest the lead character didn’t get to me like him as much as Jospeh Oloughlin. However I enjoyed the storyline and and the premise.

I suspect there will be a book two, of so, the main character needs some depth to him. A good read, not one of the authors better books.

I am still unsure about the narrator...

Disappointing

I've enjoyed all the author's books featuring clinical psychologist Joseph O'Loughlin and so was hopeful that I'd like this new series also centred on a clinical psychologist, Cyrus Haven. However, I've given up half way through as the story is populated with too many unpleasant characters, not least the lead female one, Evie, who is a foul-mouthed, stroppy teenager, who I see will also be in book 2. I got bored by all the psychologist's interviews with Evie, and disbelief when he has her living in his home so can help her come to terms with her disordered life: utterly unprofessional behaviour! Evie's supposed extra-sensory ability to detect of someone is telling the truth is unbelievable and a contrived device. I don't know if Cyrus will be developed into a more rounded creation in later books but so far I found him two-dimensional.
