The inhabitants of the Inventor's Housing Estate keep themselves to themselves. There are the friendly 'Hellos' when commutes coincide and the odd cheeky eye roll when the wine bottles clank in number seven's wheelie bin, but it's not exactly Ramsay Street. The dilapidated community centre is no longer the beating heart of the estate that Becky remembers from her childhood. So the new pottery class she's helped set up feels like a fresh start. This is a satellite-dish-free zone of tall houses, standing shoulder to shoulder with big front doors, five floors apiece. You could almost be in Kensington. This is where the actors, writers and media types live, where small children wearing smart uniforms and shoes in the shape of lightbulbs get ferried every day to schools that are not local. Some people are luckier than others; fortune smiles on some and gobs on the rest. Jo Metcalf smokes and spies on the smug Cunninghams down the street as they play their bile-inducing game of happy families.

Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing. But it's the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute take a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant Nobel-prize-nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Wonderful story BUT pls go back to actors reading
I LOVE Marian Keyes books.. and this is no different. BUT will have to go back to reading rather than audible if she continues to read her own books. Authors just never as good.. but she’s in good company.. Le Carre, Douglas Adams just the same!

Wonderful Marian Keyes
Having The Marian Keyes read her book to me made it triple good, as I tend to wonder if the author really wanted the caracter to sound like this or a change of tonation changes the whole scene, it’s so lovely to know this is straight from the horses mouth so to speak.. Also such a lovely voice filled with warmt and humour in the most gorgeous accent, she could probably have me enjoying anything she read - but of course this is classic Marian Keyes style awesome, with amazing and likable characters, blowing my mind with their kindness and making me resume some hope for human kind! And again you shine your light on very important subjects and give focus and insights that one can bring within and hopefully be a kinder person for having walked a mile in that shoe, living through every part of your story! Thank you!

Excellent.
This is a complex book, and with so many characters, moving in and out of the narrative, you have to keep your wits about you otherwise you can get lost. But I have to say I love the way Marian Keyes writes. Very unconventional! I don't think she would mind me saying that. Her stories are character driven. She introduces characters and then loops back on the time line to develop them. Very interesting and experimental I think. Reminds me a little of the way Virginia Woolf wrote her stories.
This book has a lot going on within the family setting. In some ways tragic, and often very funny. I won't say anymore for fear of spoiling it for those that haven't read it yet.
I loved it. What made me love it even more was that she narrated it herself. I found her very easy to listen to, and she read it so well.
Thank you, Marian.

Fantastic, and it’s narrated by Marian herself!
Fabulously funny, poignant, romantic, socially aware, what more do you want? I wished it was longer, I was so enamoured with the characters lives, hardly got anything done as all I wanted to do was carry on listening, but at the same I didn’t want it to end.

More actors, less authors
I absolutely adore Keyes' writing, but I don't think she should read her own stories. It was very hard to follow the dialogues and the storyline. I got confused about whether a new paragraph was starting.
I really appreciate the portrayal of a certain mental illness - it seems very accurate. However, I think there were just a bit too many characters in this book: This made the plot almost impossible to follow in the beginning and I feel like some could only be portrayed superficially.

Hm...
I like Marian Keyes in interviews and youtube videos and really enjoyed some of her previous books, so I have been looking forward to this one for a while. Now that I am finished after seventeen hours I am left with very mixed feelings. I don’t want to give spoilers, so I won’t elaborate on my disappointment, but, oh well, I didn’t like the ending of the one relationship I cared about and found some excessively elaborate descriptions and character arcs really dissatisfying. That said, the book is an easy listen and the many hours pass quickly.

Not all authors should narrate their own books
The story itself is, as always, a perfectly beautiful Marian Keyes delight. The only issue is the narration. A brilliant author is not automatically the best person to also narrate it. It wasn't awful, just a bit grating on one's nerves..... unless it's normal in Ireland to pronounce single words as though they are two - EG: Mouthed = Mouth-ED; Breathed = Breathe-ED; Safety = Safe-ITY; Back and Forth'd = Back and Forth-ED.
Weird.
But other than that, it's a wonderful book and I would highly recommend it.

Not my fav
I love this author but this work felt pushed. So much conversation in the first half of the book between so many characters. It’s so hard to figure out who is who. It took half the book to find any point to any of the stories and it felt like pointless chatter. Not a fan of this one.

Very disappointing
17 hours of my life that I can't ever get back. Having been a huge fan of Marian Keys, I am always excited when a new release hits the stands. This was so unlike any of her other books! Extremely dull story-line, which seemed to go on and on without much point. The plot only got exciting in the last few chapters. Boring story about a family who does nothing but holiday together, but can barely get along. Disappointing ,

Pityful
Feels like it goes on forever. Believing it must improve I came back four times after finishing other books, thinking the denouement would make it worthwhile. I should have read the signs a whole lot earlier. A good writer whom I've enjoyed before, but this felt empty.
