About this listen

In the winter of 1924, Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher travels to a school friend's house to witness the estate's famous Guy Fawkes celebration. But she gets more than the quiet weekend at the quaint family manse that she was originally hoping for.

The home is the site of some severe family tension. The Viscount and head of the family is a strict and unyielding sort, insisting that everyone - especially his children - meet his own unreasonable expectations. On the evening of the Guy Fawkes celebration, the Viscount is found dead on the floor of his study, killed by his own hand. What's more, he apparently first killed a guest - a married woman visiting England from Australia - before turning the gun on himself.

Now it's up to Alec Fletcher, Daisy's husband and a DCI of Scotland Yard, to unravel the mystery and the long-held family secrets that led to this state of affairs. But a solution will require, perhaps, more than a little help from Daisy herself.

An entertaining story with familiar characters

These stories are light but hold your attention, are great for driving and for relaxing with.
They are not too demanding but with enough red herrings, possible outcomes and gentle critique at the class system to avoid being predictable.
The narrator is much better than the American but as if often the case, regional accents are a challenge - not enough to bother me though!
I choose to listen to the stories narrated by Lucy as she is far preferable to the other.

Always fun

Yet another great story in this series. I did guess the culprit from the beginning, but it was good to see how it all played out.

Very enjoyable easy listening

I listen to books in bed so don't want anything too gory or exciting. This is fits the bill perfectly for me. entertaining and interesting - a cozy mystery with a good narrator.

Easy listening and fun

Having listened to the stories so far you get used to the narration and jolly hockey sticks approach to solving murder. Easy listening and enjoyable - not meant to be taken too seriously.

Entertaining if you can get past the narrator

Another entertaining plot and good storyline. Please, though, narrator, if you can’t do regional accents, don’t try. It’s really irritating.

A story I couldn't stop listening to.

So pleased to have Lucy back as narrator. I found I had to listen to it all in less than two days. Bring on the next book!
