Summary

A sacred oath, a fallen angel, a forbidden love...

This darkly romantic story features our heroine, Nora Grey, a seemingly normal teenage girl with her own shadowy connection to the Nephilim, and a super-alluring bad boy, Patch, now her deskmate in biology class.

Together they find themselves at the centre of a centuries-old feud between a fallen angel and a Nephilim. Forced to sit next to Patch in science class, Nora attempts to resist his flirting, though she gradually falls for him against her better judgment.

Meanwhile creepy things are going on with a mysterious stalker following her car, breaking into her house, and attacking her best friend, Vi. Nora suspects Patch, but there are other suspects too - not least a new boy who has transferred from a different college after being wrongly accused of murdering his girlfriend. And he seems to have taken a shine to Nora....

Love certainly is dangerous. And someone is going to have to make the ultimate sacrifice for it.

Had potential.

Overall, this series was a disappointment. The chemistry between Nora & Patch is really exciting. For a teenage girl whose experiencing her first love, she’s not too desperate and sometimes displays an admirable show of autonomy.

That being said, after a while I started to get frustrated by the forces that threaten to keep them apart - they’re completely within the lovers control so I don’t feel the high stakes of potentially losing love.

The world of Fallen Angels that Nora finds herself thrust into seems really intriguing, except for the fact that we never actually get to be a part of it because Nora herself is not really a part of it. The whole series feels like a deep dive into Nora’s inner monologue as she struggles to understand events that are going on around her that are mostly out of her control.

This felt more like a mystery series than anything else, and I would be into it if the reveals were intelligible. But they’re not, they’re pretty obvious, and the explanations are flimsy.

The only good thing I can say about this series is that it is realistic in it’s portrayal of what most people are like in real life - neither good nor evil, just complex in their own ways.

Book.. YES. Narrator.. No.

The books brilliant! I love Becca Fitzpatrick, Hush Hush is one of my faves. As an audiobook... meh. I’ve never said this about an audiobook, but the narrator was not right... female voices, great! Male.. very robotic and the accents made me cringe, I nearly stopped reading because of it, fortunately, it was only a small part. There isn’t other audiobooks for the rest of the series that I can find and if there are, I hope they change the narrator as some of the words are pronounced incorrectly. Wow. I feel mean for saying that, but I wish there was a review saying this before I bought it.

Tolerably entertaining

This is very much a YA book. The plot is juvenile, the characters are one dimensional and the writing itself is average.

Having said that, it is a fun book with lots of tension and scary elements. Patch and Norah have a cute dynamic, if a little unbelievable - it's not immediately obvious why he'd fall for her. She really is an average teenager with a bit more depth of character than your average high school girl.

I've had the entire series retold to me by my 13 year old and so have no desire to buy the subsequent audiobooks.

The Best

My most favourite book of all - and finding it on audio was a real joy considering I have zero time to even sleep right now. Will help keep me sane during third year uni!!

A slept on read

I loved this book back in the day and I’m sorry but the narration felt like it killed it :(

A really fun book but the worst supposedly Irish accent I’ve ever heard. Just a heads up, you might be better off reading this one instead…

Teen fantasy

Poor writing, even worse reading, but still couldn’t stop listening. A teenage fantasy and an easy listen, will definitely get you through a long journey.

I've read the book several times and the audiobook is just as good! I'll be waiting for the following books!

I love this book…

I read this over 10 years ago but it’s one of the few truly excellent YA novels I’ve read. It’s full of twists and turns as well as giddy, young, bad boy romance. I loved it so much i decided recently to listen to the audio. I wasn’t disappointed.

Definitely not good

Read this book when i was a tween and i gotta say even though i loved it back then it really didnt hold up. the narration didnt help either, the fake Irish accent in parts was truly terrible. the main character seems to really dislike the love interest, and even fears him, and then suddenly she doesnt? plot is interesting enough to hold its own, if the characters werent so dislikeable. typical teen romance with lots of stalking and feeling uncomfortable around the guy love interest
