Summary

In the vein of Mindy Kaling, Ali Wong and Amy Poehler, a collection of hilarious personal essays, and poems on the subjects of insecurity, fame, anxiety and much more from the charming and wickedly funny creator of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

Rachel Bloom has felt abnormal and out of place her whole life. In this exploration of what she thinks makes her 'different', she's come to realise that a lot of people also feel this way - even people who she otherwise thought were 'normal'.

In a collection of laugh-out-loud funny essays, all told in the unique voice (sometimes singing voice) that made her a star, Rachel writes about everything from her love of Disney, OCD and depression, weirdness and female friendships to the story of how she didn't poop in the toilet until she was four years old. It's a hilarious, smart and infinitely relatable collection (except for the pooping thing).

The story of being a former (and current) weird kid

Perfect for any Rachel Bloom fan — extremely weird, very funny and brutally honest. I didn’t expect to hear a Harry Potter fan fiction in the middle, but I’m glad I did. This is a memoir about, in part, being the weird kid in school and how Bloom grew beyond that. I will definitely listen again.

Can't recommend enough 🙌

This book had me cackling out loud and also crying. It made me be retrospective about my own childhood too. Loved it.

I love her, it's as simple as that

I loved crazy ex-girlfriend and I love Rachel Bloom, and as soon as I found out that she was narrating the audio book, I knew I needed to have the audio book and not just the hard copy, because hearing her tell her story in her voice, is phenomenal. I love Rachel because of her honesty even when we care so much about what other people think. I have BPD and I loved crazy ex-girlfriend before her character was diagnosed with BPD and it makes sense. I'd like to point out that not everyone with BPD has the same experiences as Rebecca and I love how the show explored that.
So all in all, I love you Rachel Bloom and I look forward to "Badass"!!

Witty, fun, and hilariously honest

This is a must-read for any fans of Rachel Bloom's work. She has an endearing way of letting us into her inner world, unfiltered childhood trauma and all.

Great read, thank you!
I think you make us all feel a bit more normal.

Hilarious!

I’m a huge Rachel Bloom and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend fan and was thoroughly entertained by this race through some moments of Bloom’s life. Not a detailed autobiography, but some of Rachel’s experiences growing up, dating, her experience of work and life. I laughed out loud a lot and loved Rachel’s performance. She is super talented as a writer as her work on CXG proved, and as an essayist too. Loved it. A must for fans.

A relatable laugh out loud, insightful and wholesome account of experiencing life outside of the ever so elusive norm

Rachel's narration of her life, from potty training to relationships, mental health and career, was the best one-sitting listening experience I've had in ages. I laughed, I "awwwed", I learned from and enjoyed the imaginative journey she took me on. I was so happy about her singing bits of it too thanks to the audio format!
I'm grateful for artists like her helping me accept, even enjoy being myself, warts and all, whilst also being able to laugh about it. The day went by in a flash and tasks where a breeze thanks to having her along.
