Summary

The first book by legendary vet James Herriot, set in 1930's Yorkshire.

When the newly qualified vet, James Herriot, arrives in the small Yorkshire village of Darrowby, he has no idea of the new friends he will meet or adventures that lie ahead.

From the author whose books inspired the BBC series All Creatures Great and Small, this first volume of unforgettable memoirs chronicles James Herriot's first years as a country vet, with the signature storytelling magic that has made him a favourite the world over.

Here is a book for all those who find laughter and joy in animals, and who know and understand the magic of wild places and beautiful countryside.

Please be aware that this is the abridged version

I'm a big fan of James Herriot and his stories translate well into audio format. However I was unaware when I purchased this that it wasn't the full book. I think Amazon should be clearer on this, particularly to Audible subscribers.

Entertaining and light hearted book

I found this a most entertaining book and enjoyed it right from the start, I watch the series on TV but this did not ruin the reading of this book. I will listen to it a few more times over the coming months.

This book took me back to my childhood when I watched this on TV. Love the fact they use Christopher Timothy as the narrator

Loved every minute.

I thoroughly enjoyed this first of James Herriot’s books. Wonderfully read and brought to life by Christopher Timothy, I could visualise the characters and settings throughout. I cannot wait to tuck into the next.
