Summary

Innocent is the shocking true story of little Molly and Kit, siblings, aged three years and 18 months, who are brought into care as an emergency after suffering non-accidental injuries.

Aneta and Filip, the children’s parents, are distraught when their children are taken into care. Aneta maintains she is innocent of harming them, while Filip appears bewildered and out of his depth. It’s true the family has never come to the attention of the social services before, and little Kit and Molly appear to have been well looked after, but Kit has a broken arm and bruises on his face. Could it be they were a result of a genuine accident, as Aneta is claiming?

Both children become sick with a mysterious illness while experienced foster carer Cathy is looking after them. Very worried, she asks for more hospital tests to be done. They’ve already had a lot. When Cathy’s daughter, Lucy, becomes ill too she believes she has found the cause of Kit and Molly’s illness, and the parents aren’t to blame. However, nothing could be further from the truth, and what comes to light is far more sinister and shocking.

Very hard to get into

Usually finish Cathy’s books the day I purchase them, but this one got off to such a slow start it was hard to listen for longer than an hour or so at a time. Feel like the first 10 or so chapters was just the same thing being repeated over and over again. A good story but feel like many chapters were just unnecessary page fillers.

Heart wrenching and well written

Cathy Glass's fostering memoirs are well written and very moving. I love the little details Cathy gives that has made me fall in love with each and every child she writes about and her own family. I have listened to every book at least 3 times. They give an insight into the world of fostering, adoption and parenting that has, I believed made me a better teacher and parent - more patient, more understanding and generally more aware. Along with other fostering memoirs, these books have inspired my mum to consider a fostering carer and I hope to foster once my own children are older. Thank you Cathy and Demica.

Not as good as previous

I enjoy the narrator, and have listened to many other books read by her and written by this author. But I don't think I'll be getting any more in the future. The last few books have been boring and predictable. I had this on preorder and it wasn't worth the wait. it's been brilliant to have an insight to the foster system and these children's lives but I feel the focus has moved into producing more books. Quantity over quality.

Great story but sad ending.

Another really good book by this author, I have to say i was concerned about the condition that the mother had. I agree it's good that she realised she'd been in the wrong and did something about it. However this is a serious condition and I would question weather it's a condition you can truely recover from. I really hope in this case that the write choice was made and that these children will be ok. Another Cathy Glass classic

This one was gripping! Once I realised how the children mightve been becoming sick, I was desperate for Cathy & Social Services to work it out too. Really sad to know that this happens to children right now in the world but good to have bought awareness to FDIA/ MSBP and that it is a real thing sadly. So glad Cathy worked it out & the children were saved from further harm.

Love it..

Another Cathy Glass Fostering memoir must read! An incredibly honest account of the highs and lows of fostering and the variety of children, professionals and birth families foster carers work with. Heartwarming and Heartbreaking all at once...exactly like fostering is Bravo!

Interesting story but a little irritating

A lot of waffling and very frustrating one of Cathy’s. I could see clearly what was happening and I fail to believe Cathy was that naive, had me incredibly frustrated and almost stopped listening but I wanted to find out what happened. Si for the first time ever I have given 3 stars and deciding now whether to read anymore as I feel like the story was dragged out to make a book and feel others now might be the same,

Another heartbreaking read

Cathy glass is a fantastic author. Each book i read is so heartbreaking but also heartwarming.

This particular book left me angry . I feel so bad that you were treated so badly Cathy.

I hope the little notes are doing well !
