One of the most beloved characters in the series

What did you like most about Jimmy the Hand?

This is a book that details the origins of Jimmy the hand, one of the most iconic characters in the riftwar saga. The archetypal rogue, he goes from one adventure to another seamlessly. Its great to have a story from the perspective of the cunning thief for once, instead of the same old daring adventurers, or goody-good party out to save the world. Jimmy is in it for his own interest and has only his wits to keep him alive, very tense scenes and lots of intrigue await. This is a true gem

What did you like best about this story?

The new perspective, and the way Jimmy manipulates his environment and resources to get what he wants. A detailed character study, with great delivery, allowing you to become involved in the psychology of the main character. Very fun.

What does Matt Bates bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Brings life to the scenes and to the struggles of each character, with an animated tone.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes of course

Any additional comments?

An excellent read or listen, recommended for fans of raymond e feist, fantasy novels, or general thievery

Peter Joyce is better than Matt Bates...

Having listened to previous Feist titles with Joyce as the narrator, whilst Bates is good he isn't a scratch on Joyce.

Asides from that, it just isn't quite top notch Feist: Ray himself said that the ending is so unfinished due to Steve Sterling being very late to his deadline, and generally quite uncooperative...

All is not well

One of the most interesting characters in the Riftwar Saga. A difficult task to extract his story from previously published story lines - not entirely successful.

Nothing new

Jimmy is iconic but this added nothing to his mystique or gave insight into his character. Shame.

Narrator is really bad

As story is great like all books written by Raymond E. Feist narrator Matt Bates hurry trough the story in blunt and really boring way. All books written by Raymond E. Feist should be read by Peter Joyce who brings color and paints the story with his voice.
Terribly read and narrator.

Nice side story

Narrator was fine. Nice side story however had some inconsistencies with the main story line. Highly recommend reading this in chronological order of book. Looses much of the magic knowing what Jimmy will go through later.

My least favourite so far.

I've been binging the feist books and have been loving them, but this one has been a struggle, I'm having to force my self to keep listening. It's very slow paced compared to his other works. The narrator is not bad but I've just been used to the previous narrotor that it's not the same without. Honestly only still listening so can move on to the next book. This is just my opinion and this book may be up your alley.
