About this listen
Perhaps the most compelling murder case of our day, the death of six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey galvanized the nation - and years after it occurred, the mystery still endures. Who killed the young beauty queen and why? Who is covering up for whom, and who is simply lying? In JonBenet, the most authoritative and comprehensive study of the Ramsey murder, a former lead Boulder Police detective, Steve Thomas, explores the case in vivid and fascinating detail - pointing the way toward an analysis of the evidence some deem too shocking to consider.
Here, Thomas raises these and many other provocative questions:
How was the investigation botched from the beginning, and why did police so carelessly allow the crime scene to be tampered with?
Why were John and Patsy Ramsey protected from early questioning and any lie-detector tests, even though their stories and behavior were erratic, suspicious, and inconsistent?
Why was crucial evidence ignored, why were certain key witnesses unquestioned by detectives, and why were the Ramseys privy to sensitive information about the case and even police reports?

Shocking
Good book about a true story. The second one I have read about this, again better than I thought it would be with much detail and a lot of back stabbing.
A disgraceful botch from beginning to end from the police, one enormous cover up from team Ramsey.....yes, team Ramsey. Says it all.
A very sad story whatever you believe.

very good, but a little too long
I enjoyed it. it was interesting to hear all the evidence that point led to the parents and how they did everything to block and type of investigation. it gets a little too long winded, could have been a little shorter

Eye opening
People here in the UK often have a completely misplaced idea that the USA has a robust justice system where appropriate punishments are issued to bad people (the chair, the needle, life without the possibility of parole etc) What this book actually demonstrates is firstly that politics has no place in law and order and the trial process and that, secondly, if you are rich in the USA you can, quite literally, get away with murder. As a retired detective I have no idea how the police officers involved in this case kept their cool under the pressure exerted on them by a corrupt and incompetent DA's office. I used to watch Mork and Mindy as a kid and think how nice a place Boulder seemed. How very wrong that impression was.

A must for fans of the case. Written by a detective who worked the case.
I arrived here from watching a you tuber who makes videos about high profile crimes.
Contains lots of information and evidence that you will not have encountered if your knowledge of the case was obtained from the main stream media. Truly shocking revelations of how the case was handled. A seemingly perfect storm of circumstances making sure the chances of the case being solved, or anyone standing trial were infinitely small.
Without a resolution in the 20 years since the book, no book is able to be conclusive about the Ramsey case. I would wager lthough, that within a few hours, the reader will have a fairly good handle on what theory is most likely.
The narrator was very easy to follow and it was easy to forget he wasnt the actual cop on the case. Reminded me of the actor Michael Shannon in Boardwalk Empire. I can imagine Michael playing him in a movie version of the story.🙂
I found it useful to write down the names of the lawyers, DA's and detectives in order to understand some of the dynamics and incidents.
Thoroughly enjoyed it and glad I chose the right book to devote my time to.

A sad and sobering tale
I knew almost nothing of this case, so I listened to the book with an open mind. The more I heard the more shocked and outraged I became. That the murder of a child could be so badly mishandled is unforgivable, and a stain on that whole community. While the author points to particular suspects, what is clear from the outset is that the coverup is as bad if not worse than the crime. A salutary lesson in how not to investigate, or prosecute a homicide.

A MUST READ!!!
Anyone who has heard about this case will be familiar with “we done everything we could to co-operate; but they didn’t do their job”. What a crock of s**t!!! I applaud Steve for writing this and giving the inside on how they were made to look like such victims. I have always said I thought that Patsy killed the poor child. But to know that all the evidence pointed to her and how the police were stopped & how high up the cover up went is even worse. To think that woman died a victim in many peoples eyes and has such a sympathy vote makes me sick. I do now believe that John was involved and some abuse had definitely taken place. He speaks about it so calmly during interviews. It makes me upset and it’s not even my child how can he remain calm!! So many questions. This book is a must read to reveal the full picture! Thank you Steve

Worth a listen
I applaud Steve Thomas for writing this book. I can well believe that it was cathartic for him to do so. It is incredibly detailed. I never read anything about this case before. it is an absolute total disgrace the way it was handled. From the beginning evidence was tampered with. Shame on all those involved not bringing the perpetrators to justice. I saw the Larry King interview with Steve and the Ramseys. I was however, bitterly disappointed that Steve did not talk to Patsy as she had asked him to do so, about the evidence he had against them as so much was detailed in the book. All he mentioned was the ransom note. I felt he had his chance there but failed to bring it forth. I do however, much admire his absolute fortitude in this case. Nobody will ever be prosecuted and that is immensely sad due to the henious murder of that beautiful precious little girl. Patsy is now dead taking her secrets to the grave.

Incredible the cover up in this case. When a police officer turns whistle blower. Still nobody is charged for this little girl’s murder. But the police officer can sleep at night knowing he did all he could

Shocking
A really excellently written book. Laying out the horrors of a murder mishandled. It’s shocking that politics and money mean more than finding a killer

fascinating
A fascinating book that details the indepth police work that went on in trying to solve the murder of Jonbenet. I found it unbelievable the stunts pulled by parties that should have been working together to solve this heinous crime.
overall a great book. The fact that it's narrated by the author makes it more humane.
