Summary

"I've discovered that going for a daily walk has become as essential to me feeling good for the rest of the day as that first cup of tea. But I would argue that all I am doing is responding to a natural need we all have. Humans have always been migrants, the physiological urge to be nomadic is deep-rooted in all of us and perhaps because of that our brains are stimulated by walking. I solve all sorts of problems, formulate ideas, work things out to that gentle rhythm of self-propelled movement." (Kate Humble)

Thinking on My Feet is an inspiring journal of walks divided into seasonal sections. Discover the joys and benefits of walking, encounters with the natural and urban world, with the familiar and strange, with animals, people and events. Kate charts her feelings and impressions throughout, capturing the perspectives that only a journey on foot allows. Find out what makes you curious, what makes something memorable.

Also included are Kate's walks with other people who have discovered the magical, soothing effect of putting one foot infront of the other - the artist who walks to find inspiration for his next painting; the man who takes people battling with addiction to climb mountains; and the woman who walked every footpath in Wales (3,700 miles) when she discovered she had cancer.

This audiobook will inspire you to change your perspective by applying walking to your daily endeavours.

The simple pleasures of walking...

Evocative account about the simple pleasures of walking and all the mental and physical benefits it brings. Kate Humble's accounts of her wanders, rambles, runs and bipedal challenges have inspired me to put my trainers on and get out there and walk.

Brilliant, inspiring and very interesting book!

I had no expectations of this book, I enjoy walking so I thought I'd give it a bash.
I was immersed from the start and also inspired to get out and about more for all the reasons in the book.
A great upbeat and easy listen.

The best Book I have ever read

This is by far my favorite book of all time. The descriptive use of launguage and the beautiful way it was read had me so immersed in the whole experience, that I felt I was walking along with Kate chatting to me. I loved the varied content attention to detail and descriptive use of launguage. So real. Thanks Kate.

Finished in 2 days

A good mix of Kate’s year of walks as well as some research/theory on benefits of walking well tied in, including stories of other walkers. A great listen for anyone that puts one foot in front of the other...

Lovely gentle story

Enjoyed this for bedtime listening. Peaceful and calming collection of experiences. I didn’t enjoy Kate’s narration unfortunately- she spoke quite fast and almost forced. Pity.

Uplifting collection of stories

I really enjoyed the telling of other’s stories interwoven throughout. I found some of the description a little wordy though.

Kate Humble, you are a wonderful person.

As above, you have inspired me to start walking again at nearly 71 yrs old. On my last walk, going over a small wooden bridge, on the handrail, there was a flat pebble with words written on it with paint “God save our water”. Just a little something that I would not have encountered that made me hopeful. Thank you.
