About this listen

When your life is a lie, who can you trust?

When Maggie Taylor accepts a new job in Manchester, she is sure it is the right move for her family. The children have settled well, although her husband, Duncan, doesn't appear to be so convinced. But nothing prepares her for the shock of coming home from work one night to find that Duncan has disappeared, leaving their young children alone. His phone is dead, and she has no idea where he has gone or why. And then she discovers she's not the only one looking for him.

When a woman who looks just like Maggie is brutally murdered and DCI Tom Douglas is brought in to investigate, Maggie realises how little she knows about Duncan's past. Is he the man she loves? Who is he running from?

She doesn't have long to decide whether to trust him or betray him. Because one thing has been made clear to Maggie - another woman will die soon, and it might be her.

A gripping thriller

This is my first Rachel Abbott book and I'll definitely listen to more. It's a part thriller, part police procedural and the narration by Lisa Coleman is absolutely superb. I did find the main character Maggie rather unbelievable and had little sympathy for her. However the police procedural aspect was very well done and kept me listening

Another gripping listen from Rachel Abbott

This is my 3rd Rachel Abbott book and like I said in my previous reviews...it won't be my last!
I don't give spoilers as I think there's something great about going into a book with no expectations and experiencing it for yourself, but I will say that once again, Rachel has written a very clever and tightly plotted story but still managed to write characters that are real, believable and so easy to get invested in.
Another stunning performance from narrator Lisa Coleman too. she is the perfect choice for Rachel's books. She gives so much depth to the characterisation and knows how to use pace to add tension and drama. loved it x

A real page turner. Keeps you on the edge of your seat.

This is one of the best books I've listed to this year. Kept me listening way past my bedtime. The plot was exciting with a few twists and turns to keep me guessing. First time I've listened to this author and I'll be looking for another

Wow! Best thriller I have listened to!

I enjoyed every minute of this. Great performance and storyline. What I loved most is the characters and how we are kept guessing throughout. I loved the unexpected twists and turns of the plot, I was in tears at parts through suspense and hearing the emotions of the characters. Fantastic.

Great book definitely worth a read

Great narration and story good although it did seem that parts from authors other books were included.

Intriguing, gripping and thoroughly enjoyable

My first audio fiction book and won't be my last; I loved it. I found the characters interesting and was gripped as the story unfolded. Narrator was excellent with good inflection.

If in doubt, I would definitely recommend.

Gripping

Gripping story but if there has ever been a book where you want to reach in and throttle the lead (female) character, this is it! Disappointing ending

Absorbing, but.....

I am a big fan of the Tom Douglas novels and of Lisa Coleman’s narration and this was another absorbing case which drew me in. The reason for only four stars is that I felt the “twist” at the end was a little too signposted for me. I found myself waiting for it to be revealed. Good listen however.
