Summary

THERE'S SOMETHING IN THE WATER...

When the ancient waters of Lady’s Well in the rural village of Holystone begin to run red, it seems to be a nasty Hallowe’en prank and nothing more. But things take a sinister turn when the entire village suffers severe poisoning, and one old man turns up dead.

Accusations abound in the small close-knit community, and ‘old’ religions spar against ‘new’ while fear runs like wildfire through the streets. With so many potential motives and countless opportunities, there’s only one man who can help solve this particular mystery…

Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit, set amidst the spectacular Northumbrian landscape.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed the story and the narration. No chapters are wasted, they are all needed for the story. Not thought provoking or profound but easy listening and fun.

Please write another

I will start with, if you are new to the DCI Ryan series then like me start with book 11 as this is a prequel and the start of this fantastic series. Ms Ross I salute you and thank you.
From book 1, I have watched all the characters evolve, I have laughed and held back a tear throughout the series, experiencing all the emotions the characters have gone through. Frank Phillips as to be my favourite character with his Geordie accent and quick wittedness and always keeping Ryan on his toes, this can only be accomplished by my favourite narrator Mr Jonathan Keeble, who brings all the characters to life making them all believable. Thank you Mr Keeble.
If you like Mysteries, romance with a splash of comedy you will most certainly enjoy the DCI Ryan series, I can’t wait for book 21.

Couldn't stop listening.

I've read or listened to all the DCI Ryan books. They never disappoint me. The usual banter between Ryan and Frank Phillips, had me laughing out loud. The story was another great murder mystery. Different from some of the previous books, still enjoyable. Narration as always excellent from Jonathan Keeble.

Took just 2 days to get through it!

I liked the story line, good as ever. The narrative was good, although a little weak in some areas, but ignorable as it didn’t affect the overall performance.

Another winner!!

I just love this series. Ross, Phillips, Jack and all the team are just fantastic. The narrator must be one of the best there is. Storylines keep me guessing , added with the humanity and humour I just can’t stop listening and I am already waiting for the next one.
L J Ross is a fantastic author and I thoroughly enjoyed this and all the previous books in the series.
