Summary
Book three in the gripping supernatural series by the best-selling author of the Chronicles of St Mary's series.
I don't know who I am. I don't know what I am.
The identity of Elizabeth Cage has always been a mystery. Even she doesn't know who, or what, she is. But she's learned to live with it.
Until now, when what should have been a peaceful holiday turns into anything but, and Elizabeth is forced to recognise that she isn't what she seems.
But neither is anyone else. Has her whole life been a lie?
Someone very badly wants to know the truth about Elizabeth Cage. And they'll do anything to find out. But who will live to regret it?
Twisty, dark and incredibly gripping, the Elizabeth Cage novels are perfect for fans of Sarah Painter and Genevieve Cogman.

Great series, much improved by Zara Ramm’s narration
I’ve been a Jodi Taylor fan for a while, and this series finally settled with Zara’s narration. Made the story more engaging and easy to follow. Another great instalment of the Elizabeth Cage series: the best one yet in fact. Bring on the next book!

So that is Elizabeth's secret!
I listened to all three books in a row, and this one brings a kind of closure to the mystery of Elizabeth's powers. However, there are some things not revealed and the ending suggests that another book (or several) is possible.
Overall this is an enjoyable listen, made easier by having Zara Ramm narrate the story (Julie Teal just didn't work!).
Fans of Jodi Taylor will recognise some familiar plot lines and twists and turns. However, unlike the St Mary's series the historical background to this series take you into an imagined world of myth and legend. This is where the book is weakest- the 'good and bad' historical battles played out in the background are the authors own invention rather than based on history as we know it. This led to the final reveal of Elizabeth's history to be somewhat of a disappointment.
While I have enjoyed the series, I'm not sure I'll stay the course for book 4.

Brilliant story
Jodi Taylor has done it again and written a third book in the Elizabeth Cage series. Can't recommend this author too much, she's amazing. My only niggle is Sara Ramm reading this third book. Every actor has a limited number of 'voices' and she's so totally involved with the St Mary's and the Time Police, which she reads brilliantly that I found it disconcerting.

Love this reader best
Absolutely adore Jodi Taylor’s books, from St Mary, to Time Police and now this series, too! And felt much more settled with Ms Ramm performing this reading: felt like a home coming, thank you!

Loved it!
Well, I didn't expect that! You do need to listen to Jodi Taylor's books in order or you will miss the meaning of some things. Elizabeth Cage and Michael Jones are back with screaming ghosts, Gerry and Gerald this time and a whole lot of other characters along for the ride. And what is that thing in Elizabeth's head? Listen, and find out!

Whirlwind
Another whirlwind from Jodi Taylor. A laugh, crying, holding your breath rollercoaster adventure. You think the story is going one way and out of nowhere it catapults in to a whole new reality.

Jodi Taylor has a real gift for story-telling.
First things first- This is not a series you can dip into. You really need to read the first 2 books before reading this one- the story arcs are numerous and there is too much backstory for this to be a good jumping off point.
This book is really good. The unexpected happens time after time and the fantasy and real-life elements so well interwoven it all feels very believable.
The core characters are all here, and several strands that seem to be the core stories also are picked up and expanded and embellished.
It is so difficult to give a review without giving away spoilers so I will just say this was better than the second book.
The narrator for the audio has changed again. Zara Ramm is a great narrator but it does take a a little while to stop thinking of Chronicle of St Mary's (she narrates that series too). However once that is overcome the narration is excellent and brings the characters to life.
