Summary
The Night Raven is the first book in Crow Investigations, an exciting new paranormal mystery series from best-selling author of magical fiction, Sarah Painter.
Lydia has always known she has no power, especially next to her infamous and more-than-slightly dodgy family. Which is why she carved her own life as a private investigator far away from London. When a professional snafu forces her home, the head of the family calls in a favour, and Lydia finds herself investigating the disappearance of her cousin, Maddie.
Soon, Lydia is neck-deep in problems: her new flatmate is a homicidal ghost, the intriguing, but forbidden, DCI Fleet is acting in a distinctly unprofessional manner, and tensions between the old magical families are rising. For 75 years, a truce between the four families has held strong, but could the disappearance of Maddie Crow be the thing to break it?
Critic reviews
“My favourite new urban fantasy series, clever and twisty and deliciously magical, with a shivery sense of wonder that feels utterly grounded in its London setting. Perfect for fans of Ben Aaronovitch, Genevieve Cogman or Robert Galbraith!” (Stephanie Burgis, author of Masks and Shadows)

Absorbing tale
A good start to what I hope is a long series. An easy listen with engaging characters and enough left out
to make you want to come back for more.

Very Enjoyable
A little bit of mystery and intrigue, a little bit of comedy, and some excellently written hot chemistry between Lydia and the DCI Fleet. A great book with a bit of everything and a fabulous narrator to boot! Just off to buy the next two in the series...

Wicked
Excellent series of books. The narrator is awesome and the books are so well written. Just thought I'd leave this review before I listen to the final book. It'll no doubt be as addictive as the others in the series

Good Story with a bit of suspense and paranormal embedded.
I found this book after sampling. I had not read this author previously nor had i listened to this narrator. I found the narrator easy to listen to and as the main character is female her voice suited the role well. The male voices were good and not over emphasised. The story starts well and captivates you as it introduces new characters and their roles / skills. I have purchased the next in the series as i am intrigued as to how it will develop. I would recommend this book if you like some thing that is easy to listen to and not overly complex.

Read the books instead!
I love these stories and have read all the books. This book sets up Lydia's world and the mysterys to follow. Such a shame that I couldn't like the audiobook. The narrator has an almost childish voice and reads each sentence with a "smirk'. It's annoying and detracts from the story making Lydia seem young and naive. Lydia is young, but an old soul and this reading makes her seem like a teen. The magic in the stories has an interesting slightly sinister undertone, especially in later books. I have no idea why such a childlike sounding narrator was chosen.

A fantastic start
I have listened and read in excess of 200 urban fantasy stories and this has to rank in the top 5. The narration was perfect for the character and there was an under tone in the story to make you want to just here five minutes more. A brilliant start and I have already queued up book number 2.
