Summary

The laugh-out-loud debut novel from one of Britain's best-loved comediennes.

Millie was at one time quite well known for various TV and radio appearances. However she now has no money, a best friend with a better sex life than her, a daughter in Papua New Guinea, and too much weight in places she really doesn't want it. When she's asked to be the frontwoman for a new diet pill, she naively believes that all her troubles will be solved. She will have money, the weight will be gone, and maybe she'll get more sex.

If only life was really that easy. It doesn't take her long to realize it's going to take more than a diet pill to solve her never-ending woes....

Disappointed

The enjoyment of the story was marred by a monotonous narration. Had this been narrated by someone else it would have been far better.

Enjoyable, quite funny, missing links spoil story

This book was funny and the character of Milly charms and resonates with many women of a certain age I should think. Overall there was a bit too much skipping over the difficulties she was having and whole chunks of time passed in a paragraph or two where things had got resolved 'magically'. The last chapter is a case in point and totally jars.

dreadful narration.from a very funny woman. disap

I expected better. The bronchial narration without any narrative emphasis made what could have been a very funny book dreary. The plot was very promising.

The Hummus of Helen Lederer

I’ve always enjoyed the humour of Helen Lederer, despite the phone’s dictionary wanting me to write “the hummus of Helen Lederer”. I’ve spent forty years trying to lose weight and can identify with some of the circumstances. The rest are funny. I’ve never tried colonics and strangely I now never will.
The reading speed and style is pleasing and I enjoyed this audiobook. I never can understand why I am asked to put in a review. I’m an unusual person and everyone whom I know variously disagrees with me. What you think of this audiobook is up to you, but I enjoyed it.

Very funny

I really enjoyed this book. I laughed out loud quite a few times, so beware if you are reading it on a bus!
An interesting and amusing set of characters deal with very relatable issues.

Such a disappointment

What disappointed you about Losing It?

Nothing like the blurb. It gets off to such a slow start then just doesn't really move on. I got the impression that the writer had a good idea but then had to fill the book up with additional words to meet some sort of quota.

What didn’t you like about Helen Lederer’s performance?

Just not funny at all.

Any additional comments?

The characters were totally unbelievable.

So unusual and funny from minute one!

Would you listen to Losing It again? Why?

Absolutely!

What did you like best about this story?

So good to listen to a story that's a bit different and very cleverly observed from life

Any additional comments?

Wonderful writing style and clever interaction of characters - cliche I know, but laugh out loud funny and it takes a lot for me to do that!

God awful.

Would you try another book written by Helen Lederer or narrated by Helen Lederer?

Not having suffered this.

Would you ever listen to anything by Helen Lederer again?

Don't know.

How could the performance have been better?

I think it was doomed from the start.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Losing It?

The words.

Any additional comments?

Such a shame, Helen is an incredible actress whom I'm admire, but this was total dross. I shall be seeking a credit refund. Hugely disappointed.
