Summary

Finalist for the 2023 AUDIE AWARDS® for Fiction

Jodi Picoult is the author of 17 number 1 UK bestsellers. Now with Mad Honey she has joined up with co-author Jennifer Finney Boylan to give us the most compelling, challenging and contemporary novel you will read this year - and which will start conversations we need to have.

Olivia fled her abusive marriage to return to her hometown and take over the family beekeeping business when her son was six. Now Asher is over 6 feet tall and in his last year of high school, a kind, good-looking, popular ice hockey star with a tiny sprite of a new girlfriend who Olivia loves. Then Lily is found with a catastrophic head injury at the bottom of the stairs - and Asher is arrested on a charge of murder. . . What was the truth of their relationship?

More that just need

Well at first I thought is this book going to centre around bee keeping! but soon came to the realisation it was much more than that and is actually a fascinating insight into the complex life of bees and the parallels between ours. Asher and Lily are old for their years and live on an emotional rollercoaster. My favourite character is Olivia read superbly by Carrie Coon. I wasn’t keen on Lily’s narrator. I found myself totally invested in this story and learned a lot as well. I didn’t expect the turn of events, so well done to both authors on a thoroughly unusual and captivating read.

Fantastic story beautifully told

I loved this audiobook. it my 1st time reading or listening to these authors, and I'm an instant fan.

I won't spoil it by describing the plot. it's beautifully told in the voice of 2 women. Each with strength but telling their story with the tenderness it deserves.

Excellent narration. I'll be looking for other books they've narrated as they each pull you into the story, and let you get lost on their world.

I very rarely leave a review

oh my goodness! I very rarely leave a review, as a book/ and a listen is such a personal experience... this book has changed my life! not my views! I was already pro... but this book is so well written that I've actually "known" these characters and enjoyed them being part of my life , now our journey has ended, I'm missing each and every one! visceral, moving, enlightening, and for the first time in my life ... this book had me holding my breath in total panic on more than one occasion! please please listen and love these characters as much as I did ! absolutely beautiful and to boot , I'm also learning more about bee's too .... God bless you Lilly , we all loved you ❤️

And I loved the narration both actresses were perfect .

A moving brilliant collaboration

This is one of the best books I have listened too. It is not only moving but gripping too. Bees and other insects have always fascinated me. See Butterfly Battle on neilbehrmann.net. Thanks so much for educating us about the dreadful discrimination travails and bravery of trans people.

Beautiful story

Beautifully told story of young love, of finding yourself and the struggles that come from broken homes. This story really resonated with me and I think it’s an important one for many to read to help understand a trans persons journey.

informative and entertaining

I was invested in this story, I liked the different viewpoints and informative insight into Trans insights. I liked the way we didnt know if Asher was innocent or not.
