Summary

*A Sunday Times Bestseller*

For five generations, the Pemberton family have farmed at Birks Farm in the picturesque town of Lytham on Lancashire's Fylde Coast, working at the heart of the area since the 1830s and supplying dairy produce to the local community ever since.

In 2016, Tom Pemberton uploaded a one-minute video to YouTube about how to use the farm shop's new raw milk vending machine. He thought a handful of people would watch it. It turns out many more did. And so he began uploading regular videos, every Tuesday, Friday and the occasional Sunday to show what he gets up to on the farm. Things don't always go to plan, especially when you're the farmer's son, but every day's a learning day and Tom approaches work as he does life in general: stay positive, and don't take yourself too seriously.

Make Hay While the Sun Shines takes us behind the farm gate and follows a year on the farm: from calving to maintaining machinery, from mucking out to planning and building a brand-new cow shed. Tom gives us a unique insight into everyday life on a busy dairy farm with all its highs, lows and hard graft. Full of heart, amusing anecdotes and unforgettable characters like Tom's dad, Andy—aka the Ginger Warrior—this is Tom's story of determination, adventure and how to keep a smile on your face even when you're knee-deep in cow poo.

I started watching Tom Pemberton YouTube probably about 18 months ago it’s always open and honest and I really enjoyed the book. My only wish it longer 👍🏻 so looking forward to the next one.

brilliant

I've followed Tom for years on YouTube, even had the chance to meet him and the Ginger Warrior.

This is Toms account of life on the farm at his most honest, sharing the good and bad and the ugly with the added wisdom from the Ginger Warrior. Written by him, in his own words.

Very well written, I'm glad I got this and also purchased a signed copy of the book, having the book & the audio heightened it for me.

Showing the importance of family ran farms.

It's not just for those with an AG background but can be enjoyed by anyone. Tom or the Ginger Guy may not be Patrick Stewart or Paul Scofield (the actor not the one who talks to Gordon the gofer), but they get their point across with charm and clarity the bulk read by Tim Rumboll is good, easy on the ear.
Nice telling of how most family farms run in the UK the importance of the livestock the care given to the livestock, this may be just me but I used to see the girls and ladies (cows and sheep) were partners in the success or failure of the farming year.
If you work in AG or not there are parts of interest It reminded me of that "OH Hell" moment when you can see something is about to go wrong.
Like ane working day in a lot of industries, We all have the good and bad Tom is good at showing both.

Excellent book

Brilliant book, kept me engaged from start to finish with a good narrator and interjections from the Ginger Warrior himself!

Tom has written a great story about his own Journey set in the year of a life on the farm, and it’s a great view into behind the scenes and the big plans beyond what is on the YouTube channel.

A great book to understand more about farming and the challenges in it!

Showing the truth behind uk farming and proving nothing can stop you writing a 5 star book.

I've been a long time sicriber yo the widgets You tube channel.

But this book gives us even more in site in to the minds and thought processes of farmers Andrew and Tom (Ginger warrior I hope yhays the correct way around ) who in my opinion are championing the uk dairy industry, And uk Agriculture in general .

I wanted to get a more in-depth look at how our diary and meat is produced in the uk and this book And the videos truly show the high’s & the lows farmers go through so thank you for not sugar coating any of it.

I am dylexic as is my son and we have both listened to the book, watched all the videos and it honestly helped my son realise that dyslexia cant stop him doing anything from contributing to a sucseful.buiness across multiple ventures and writing a successful book like Tom or building aircraft like me .

And we can't wait for your next book Tom!

Just like watching him on YouTube

I have been watching Tom on YouTube for a few years now and seen all of what he has wrote about. Nevertheless I cannot get enough of the series. I really enjoyed that he has written it in the same way he talks on the channel. I was also pleased to hear he was going to make a audio copy of his book nothing better than a catch up with Tom on the way to work in the morning when I know he’s milking his cows at the same time.
