Summary

How can I achieve mental strength?

I want to be mentally and emotionally strong and smart but how do I know if I am the right candidate to learn these skills and how will I recognize what mental strength even looks like?

Self-motivation is key to being mentally strong. You can make your own decisions about how to spend your day and with whom. If you decide to go to the gym or take an early morning run through the park, you do not require support, encouragement, or the promise of a reward to complete the task you have set yourself.

Self-competition is a second important aspect to consider. People who are mentally and emotionally strong believe in themselves. They have assessed their own strengths and used these as the foundation for their personal positive growth and development. They have also acknowledged their weaknesses and instead of sweeping these under the rug, they have faced them and made an effort to replace them with positive behaviors and thoughts.

Great insights to building mental strength

Many of us were never taught how to be mentally tough such as how do we approach situations that can be difficult. I see a clear difference in how I approach a situation that I was not prepared for compared to how my husband does. I think of it more of "okay, it happened, what's next" whereas he pretty much freaks out and then dwells on it. I have seen it with my kids too. One of my kids is more like me and takes the information then formulates a plan. The other ones has anxiety that shoots through the roof, doubts herself and pretty much solves nothing. This book focuses on how to take charge or our decisions and actions regardless of outside rewards or support.

Being mentally tough is not the same as having an inflated ego. They are completely different. Learning how to build up your resistance so you do not crumble when things are tough is to be mentally tough. Learn how to take your shortcomings and replace them with positive behaviors and thoughts. I think of mental toughness as a weeble wobble. They weeble and they wobble but they don't knock down.

Great book for anyone who feels like their thoughts control them and they are ready to gain control.

The book was written straightforwardly for better and simpler comprehension. Excellent information to be mentally strong that also provides a great introduction.

Becoming tough on the inside

I needed to understand what it involved practically to attain mental strength. While we can all be resilient to challenging things that happen in life, it is always helpful to keep working on your mental toughness and strength. This was an excellent audiobook to listen to on a walk, where you can fully take all the practical advice on board.
