About this listen
The art of mindfulness can transform our struggles with food - and renew our sense of pleasure, appreciation, and satisfaction with eating. Drawing on recent research and integrating her experiences as a physician and meditation teacher, Dr. Jan Bays offers a wonderfully clear presentation of what mindfulness is and how it can help with food issues.
Mindful eating is an approach that involves bringing one's full attention to the process of eating - to all the tastes, smells, thoughts, and feelings that arise during a meal. Whether you are overweight, suffer from an eating disorder, or just want to get more out of life, this book offers a simple tool that can make a remarkable difference.
In this audiobook, you'll learn how to:
- Tune into your body's own wisdom about what, when, and how much to eat
- Eat less while feeling fully satisfied
- Identify your habits and patterns with food
- Develop a more compassionate attitude toward your struggles with eating
- Discover what you're really hungry for

For a more balanced way of eating
This book was really helpful and made me appreciate my meals much more.
At the same time fears, anxiety and misconceptions around eating are being eliminated.
There was a good balance between scientific findings and an emphasis of the personal experience and feelings while eating.

Unexpected truths!
I loved this book! I was a little sceptical at first, but the author has many truths to tell. Some truths are a little uncomfortable at first, but they are important nonetheless if you want to gain a better relationship with food. I am really pleased that I listened to this and will be recommending it to others too.

Very enlightening
I got this book after someone suggested mindful eating as a way to change my eating habits, and I am really glad I bought it. I had previously heard about the benefits of mindfulness and meditation in several other books, but I honestly didn't think I could be able to consistently apply the ideas to food. Especially eating slowly and chewing a lot seemed impossible and unnecessary.
I can say that this book (and a few others I have listened to after this one) have changed the way I approach food, and also other things. Of course my life did not change overnight, but I am slowly getting better at eating in a wholesome way and treating myself and my body in a better, kinder way. I recommend this book to anyone who struggles with food and eating.
Edit: It's now been about a year since I read this book, and I can say that I am much more at peace with my body in general. While looking at the reviews of this book, I was mainly searching for stories about weight gain/loss, and wanted to know if I could lose weight with mindful eating. To anybody who might be doing the same: I honestly don't care anymore. I do weigh myself from time to time, but it no longer ruins my day, I am no longer in a rush to lose weight, and do not imagine a 'bright future' where I am some pounds lighter. I feel like this mindset was actually what I was trying to achieve the whole time, and weight loss is just not the way to achieve it. I enjoy food without guilt and have been able to preserve my weight without keeping track of everything that passes through my mouth. I never thought I could eat 'freely' without gaining weight. I recommend this book to anybody who shares my previous concerns about weight.

It has some good points
This is a good book. The 9 hungers are interesting, which you think you cannot learn to do quickly; but you can. There are some other good bits but then a lot about meditation and chanting and thanking the body for all its good work etc. This stuff is not for me.
I will listen to it again to take out the best bits; and I have started mindful eating; but it really comes down to "am I hungry or not" - simple as that.
The author narrated and it was very slow and made it a lot duller.
