About this listen

Many people go their whole lives without noticing anything that is afoot, amiss, or even untoward; without ever experiencing that toe-tingling, stomach-twisting sensation that a mystery is about to unfold.

Not Bonnie Montgomery—the world's best detective. Not that anyone (other than Grampa Banks) has heard of her… But they might have heard of the great Montgomery Bonbon, the well-dressed gentleman detective who (apart from the hat and moustache) looks suspiciously like a 10-year-old girl.

Their newest case: solving the mystery surrounding a highly suspicious death at the Hornville Museum. Together they'll interview some dodgy witnesses, scour the scene for clues and—above all—hope no one notices that Bonnie and Montgomery are never in the same room at the same time...

“Enormous fun—Montgomery Bonbon is my new favourite detective!”—Katherine Woodfine

“A terrific twisty, turny tale… perfect for readers who love mystery, mayhem and fake moustaches.”—Shane Hegarty

The world of ABK never fails to disappoint

Extremely witty, extremely silly and delightfully British. My inner 10 year old loved the pace, jokes and main character Bonnie. My adult self loved the nods to Agatha Christie, ABK’s narration and… the jokes again. They’re good jokes. I recommend to mystery fans young and old.

A delicious tale, brilliantly narrated

With more than a little pastiche of the famous Belgian detective and his little grey cells, this delightful story is choc full of wit and humour. The small twists and relatively low-stakes peril keep you on your toes and wondering “who done it?” all the way to the denouement.

The narration by the author is fabulous and makes this a ‘must listen’ for everyone.

11yo loved it

My son (11) reports the story was inventive and funny, with good characters. He has good taste and can be critical, so I take this as high praise. Overheard some of the authors performance and we both agree it was excellent. Highly recommended. Will be looking out for any further releases from Alasdair Beckett-King.

Great story and amazing narration

As said, but also great school and plot twists without graphic detail or shocking injury

The grown-ups who listen along with children, this is for you too.

Perfect family car journey listen. I found myself laughing out loud in parts. Would be suitable for older children as it is a murder mystery.

Funny and brilliant

I loved this book. A clever story that wasn’t droopy, patronising or self conscious. Seriously fun to read with a wonderful twisty wriggly turn of phrase that is so pleasing it’s like finding little nuggets of tongue tangling joy in the flow of a great story. I could write an essay about this but I won’t, don’t read reviews, read this book!

A hoot

Funny throughout, endearing characters, and literally oodles of wordplay. We (aged 39, 41, 9, and 12), had a grand old time listening in our car which accelerated otherwise yawnsome journeys.
