About this listen

1866. On a dark, brooding summer’s evening, Agnes Lenham seats herself in an empty first-class compartment on the train to Portsmouth. She is joined by a naval officer and a middle-aged man, in high spirits after dining at his club, travelling to his home on the Isle of Wight. His name is Giles Blanchard – and within moments of the train leaving the station, the sailor strangles him . . .

At Scotland Yard, Detective Inspector Colbeck and Sergeant Leeming are called to Superintendent Tallis’s office, and given details of the violent murder. Their investigation will take them all the way to Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s favourite country home, to find out exactly what took place on that dreadful, eerie night.

Murder in Transit by Edward Marston

Great story and very good listen. Another wonderful story from Mr Marston and a worthy addition to the Railway Detective Series.

Poor voicing of characters

I found the narration distracting from the story. I gave up on it after a few chapters. I'll try the written version.

Not His Best

I am a fan of thid author and have many Railway Detective novels in my library and have enjoyed most. But this one has been hard work. I have found myself fast forwarding up to 10 minute chunks and still not losing any thread of the story. Far to much time describing meetings and side characters nothing to do with the story. meanwhile (and this is not a spoiler. We are given the miscreants in the first half hour) it moves far too slowly towards the end.

Listen to earlier ones they are far better.

At the time of writing there is a free title by this author based in the 1600's. Again I wouldn't bother.
