Summary

Agatha Christie’s most famous murder mystery, read by director and star of the film adaptation, Kenneth Branagh.

Just after midnight, a snowdrift stops the Orient Express in its tracks. The luxurious train is surprisingly full for the time of the year, but by the morning it is one passenger fewer. An American tycoon lies dead in his compartment, stabbed a dozen times, his door locked from the inside.

Isolated and with a killer in their midst, detective Hercule Poirot must identify the murderer – in case he or she decides to strike again.

Critic reviews

“Need it be said – the little grey cells solve once more the seemingly insoluble. Mrs Christie makes an improbable tale very real, and keeps her readers enthralled and guessing to the end.” Times Literary Supplement

“A brilliantly ingenious story.” Dorothy L. Sayers, Daily Herald

“Ingenuity at its height … the idea is utterly novel, the setting a model of realism, and the characters a versatile, attractive crew.” Woman’s Journal

Kenneth Brannagh does justice to a classic

Wonderful story from start to finish but a tad short for my liking.

Kenneth Brannagh excels as the narrator and fully immersed me in the tale.

Great story , great production

Another one off the list of 100must-reads. Fantastic criminal and really skilled lector. Always enjoyed the Poirot stories less as he sounds so pompous, but in this production he was made to really shine, being presented both professional and likeable

Perfect mystery for cosy bedtime listening.

A great story with a fab twist which I won't spoil for you! Kenneth Branagh is a splendid narrator; one character is a bit annoying but I think that is intentional. My first Poirot novel but definitely not my last.

Very entertaining.

My first Agatha Christie book and one I enjoyed enormously. Kenneth Branagh does a wonderful job reading and voicing the characters and his Poirot, just like in the movie, is spot on.

My one criticism would have to be the last few minutes of the final chapter. The ending was a bit rushed in how Poirot came to his final solution and then it just ends. I think it would've benefitted to have an epilogue or something.

Other than that, it was a great listen.

I wish i could give it ten stars

A well loved detective story and an incredible performance by Kenneth Branagh. A sympathetic interpretation at times moving. I particularly appreciate his rendering of Hercule Poirot as he avoids completely the trap of the grotesque emphasis in which many actors have fallen.
