Summary

No Past Forgiven is the third audiobook in the Dublin Murder mystery series. It will appeal to fans of authors such as Peter James, L. J. Ross and Ruth Rendall.

Crime and criminals keep getting in the way of Detective Garda Sergeant Mike West's personal life. The woman he loves is living in his house, in his spare bedroom. It should be simple, but it isn't. He has a solution. A romantic weekend away, in a lighthouse on Clare Island. A stunning place, a beautiful woman. What could be more perfect?

When one of the islanders dies in a bizarre and a tragic accident, West is roped in to help. But it isn't an accident, and there is more than one suspect. There's also more than one secret. Can West solve the case before someone else dies?

easy to read but a bit inplausable

I really liked the first 3 books by Valerie Keogh with Sergeant Mike West . Unfortunately when the plot developed and the girlfriend was allowed to sit in on all police interviews, I lost interest.
wouldn't happen. shame.

I am loving this series, it gets better and better, but...

The Narrator is getting worst!! In this book, he decided to whisper the story 🙄🙄. At some points I could hardly hear what he was saying. His female accents are just awful. Not sure why folk are so negative about the bedroom scenes. I think they are tastefully done and bring a different angle into a police procedural series. I am a big fan of this author's storytelling. Thank you.

Strong plot, believable characters and narrator was easy to listen too.
Story line keeps you guessing and wanting to listen more.

Brilliant Books

Am so enjoying this detective series. The plots are well thought out, and have lots of twists and turns. The guy who reads it is perfect I find his voice so relaxing so looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Thank you Valerie Keogh

Wasn't disappointed!

Couldn't put this down. it is just as absorbing as previous 2 . Wish there were more books narrated by Stephen Daly who pitched his soft Irish lilt just right - I could listen to him all day!!!

I gave the story 4 stars simply because I couldn't quite accept that a civilian was allowed to attend and participate in Gardai interviews.

Another Great Book in the Series

I am enjoying these books and this one was another great story with twists and turns and kept me listening, the only thing that I question is, the fact that Edel is involved with talking to suspects and accompanying Mike with police situations. Surely that would not be permitted.
That said, yet another great book.

OK aside from the cringey bedroom scenes

West and Andrews are a good pairing, and the setting of a remote island was a welcome change. Hapless Edel has now stopped being a victim (from her appearances in the first two of the series) and is now a full time femme fatale and, if I am honest, a nuisance wherever she appears in the plot. The bedroom/balcony/shower scenes were cringeworthy to listen to and would have been rapidly leafed over I had been reading the book. Added nothing to the plot and Stephen Daly sounded embarrassed to be narrating these sections.

Working Edel into the story also led to various unlikely scenarios where she seemed to be permitted to come along on official police business like some sort of spectator.

Decent enough murder mystery though, with some odd family dynamics, 30 year old secrets, hidden passageways and smuggling thrown in.

Suspend disbelief and prepare for dodgy accents

Adele is like the Midsomer or Shetland of Foxrock, she certainly attracts drama.
Not a bad story but stretched credibility.

Hilarious in parts - for the wrong reasons

An enjoyable listen, but part of the charm has been in the cluelessness of the 'heroine' in the first two.

This time the boot is on the other feet - our detective protagonist makes a series of decisions, from exploring a tunnel (unnecessary), allowing them to get trapped by the simple expedient of putting a stone over the top, to going out of shelter into the howling wet and cold in order to use a pocket torch to call for help into the ocean - even though riding lights which would visible on fishing vessels are nowhere in sight.

At least a fishing vessel (mysteriously unlit) does see the SOS, but doesn't tell anyone until they get into port hours later. Whatever happened to radios in the 21st century? And being set on an island they have an excuse not to be able to use a mobile telephone - which had to be conveniently and frequently left behind in the first two books. And coastguards - why do they have to use Morse to direct searchers left and right rather than use the radio to talk to the Guards or Civil Rescue authorities as they do everywhere else off the Irish coast?

But it did amuse.

Too much cringey sex.

The story is as we can expect from this series. It kept me amused whilst I cleaned the house.
