Summary

The scorching, escapist new thriller from the Sunday Times bestselling author of The Castaways

WE WERE DYING FOR A HOLIDAY

The six of us arrived on that beautiful Greek island dreaming of sun-drenched beaches and blood orange sunsets, ready to lose ourselves in the wild freedom of a weekend away with friends.

On the first night we swam under a blanket of stars.

On the second night the games began on our clifftop terrace.

On the third night the idyll cracked, secrets and lies whispering on the breeze.

And by the final night there was a body on the rocks below . . .

Critic reviews

"Lucy Clarke goes from strength to strength; this utterly addictive trouble-in-paradise novel is her best yet. The plot shifts like sand beneath the reader’s feet." (Erin Kelly)

"I’m breathless; I raced through the last third hardly coming up for air. Talk about twists and turns.... This is going to blow everyone’s socks off!" (Emma Stonex)

"I loved One of the Girls: beautiful writing, suffused with menace, complicated female heroines and an ending I couldn’t predict." (Gillian Mcallister)

A story of 6 woman in a hen/bachelorette holiday in Greece. Lexi who will be getting married to ED, surprisingly while on hen do Ed notice something or someone with them . A secret .

. The story is very long for what could be 60 chapters, but it gotten be bored up until to the last chapter (100). Contains of more physiological drama than thriller. It’s a surprisingly contain of lgbtq story aswell .

Another Lucy Clarke special

As with all of her novels this one didn’t disappoint. It had everything, kept me on my toes making sure I didn’t miss a moment. Often with Audible I get distracted, not with this one! Each and every character brings the story to life. I wondered initially if I’d ever remember who was who, but no danger of mixing them up, you get to know each of them with perfect timing. Highly recommend - sit back and enjoy!

Enjoyable suspense & intrigue!

Yes, a bit of suspension of disbelief is required towards the end of the book, but that didn't spoil the story for me. Many threads and characters weave together throughout, with a few red herrings thrown in for good measure. Plus, some interesting observations on how social expectations affect women's paths and choices in life. The inclusion of a same-sex couple didn't feel contrived to me, and I wouldn't consider the book 'woke' - but I guess that's down to personal perspective.

Good book

Really enjoyed this. Lots of characters so it takes a while to figure out who is who, there is some anomalies in the story which would be ignored by non-nursing people. But it spoiled the story for me. Yes authors can use poetic license but one story line relied on one fact that would never happen. Unless the author had taken that into account and commented on it in the storyline.
There was a lot of references to bougainvillea also, which is noticeable in an audiobook. A few too many coincidences for a small group of women too. I won’t go into detail as it’ll give the plot away.
Despite those things, I loved the characters and the storylines behind the women and the best ending. I binge listened too as I couldn’t put it down.

OK story … female violence presented as not really so bad

We’ll enough put together story. Lucy Clark is after all a competent storyteller. A bit sad that female violence is presented as generally not a bad thing, it can even tidy things up and let everyone live happily ever after.

Suspense builds throughout!

I devoured this book!
It took a few chapters to learn who was who, but chapters were short and snappy so it kept a great pace. The tension built so incredibly well throughout! Would definitely recommend!

Loved it

Great second Audible book I have read by Lucy Clarke.
Really enjoyed the characters and as in Castaways a rough justice prevailed.
A long story it kept my attention all the way through.
Narration good although not sure why two narrators.
