Summary

This audiobook includes an exclusive piece, written by Helen Fields, on the development of DI Callanach’s character throughout the series.

When silence falls, who will hear their cries?

The body of a young girl is found dumped on the roadside on the outskirts of Edinburgh. When pathologists examine the remains, they make a gruesome discovery: the outline of a doll carved into the victim’s skin.

DCI Ava Turner and DI Luc Callanach are struggling to find leads in the case until a doll made of skin is found nestled beside an abandoned baby.

After another young woman is found butchered, Luc and Ava realise the babydoll killer is playing a horrifying game. And it’s only a matter of time before he strikes again. Can they stop another victim from being silenced forever - or is it already too late?

Fantastic

Oh my gosh. I am so sad that I have finished this fourth book and I have to wait until next year to listen to the fifth one. I listened to these four books in order, one after the other and I cannot speak highly enough of this author. They are so good and I could not stop listening. To be honest, the third one is the weakest of the four in my opinion as it was not quite so intense and nail biting but nonetheless they were all brilliant and I feel very involved with the characters. HIGHLY recommended. Absolutely fabulous..!!

Perfect Review

It's Perfect-ly simple. Helen Fields writes the best crime fiction today. She stands head and shoulders above her peers in the genre, and Perfect Silence represents yet another superb tour-de-force to add to her impressive collection. Plotting, prose, dialogue, character development, pace, exposition and story-line are all of the very highest order. I have listened to all of the Luc Callanach books, up to and including Perfect Silence, and each one is nothing short of outstanding. Add to this the flawless narration delivered by the utterly superb Robin Laing, whose rhythm, pacing, intonation, and character voices (both male and female) raises these stories to an even higher level, and you have, in a nutshell, complete Perfect-ion. Robin is, I believe, one of the best narrators in the business, and it was a stroke of genius to employ his services to voice these fabulous stories. Anyway, why are you still reading this? Have I not made myself clear?! Just buy the book!!! In fact, why not treat yourself and buy all of them?!

Back on track

What seemed like a good new crime series took a serious dip on the previous book and I was in two minds whether to try this instalment. However I'm delighted to report that this right bang up there with some of my favourites again - well worth a listen.

The Evolution of Eva

Having been gripped by Helen Fields' previous Callanach novels, I was excited to see this one drop into my library after a few months of waiting.
It gets its hooks into you from the start and twists and turns until you arrive breathlessly at the end. This book had me laugh out loud in parts as well as being tragic, with a beautifully designed and executed story from both the author and narrator.
This book definitely felt like it was evolving Eva's character rather than focussing too much on Callanach. Bravo Helen Fields! More please.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

Interesting well-developed characters who you can empathise with despite their flaws. A well-placed plot left me looking forward to the next Callanach book.

Best one in the series so far!!!!

A brutal but brilliant story yet again from Helen Fields and another strong performance by Robin Laing, now for the agonising wait for the next installment.

First Audible book

As my first book this was a great introduction to Audible. I became very unsociable for a couple of days as I couldn't stop listening.

Gripping but far-fetched story

As with Book 3 in the series there are two separate stories that don't come together. Again one of them is less engaging and doesn't really add anything to the book except to slow the action of the other more gripping story that occupies far more of the narrative. The main story, involving missing young women who are mutilated and left for dead, is gruesome and far-fetched, but this is detective fiction that rarely mirrors the reality of crime detection. Living in the same area as the location of this book I'm glad that that is the case! Book 3 had a scene between DI Callanach and his mother that was left hanging and I thought it might be resolved in this book, but it isn't so why was the scene included? The female Superintendent remains a caricature whose scenes are merely yet another bollicking, usually of her female DCI Ava Turner. How I wish author's wouldn't keep including this tiresome cliche. I've taken to fast-forwarding when ever the Superintendent appears.
The narrator is excellent giving characters different voices which helps as there are a lot of of them to keep in mind .

So good!

Helen Fields just joined Stuart McBride at the top of my favourite author list. This series is brilliant. Great characters and gripping storylines. This was my favourite one yet.
