The prince of no value

Brishen Khaskem, prince of the Kai, has lived content as the nonessential spare heir to a throne secured many times over. A trade and political alliance between the human kingdom of Gaur and the Kai kingdom of Bast-Haradis requires that he marry a Gauri woman to seal the treaty. Always a dutiful son, Brishen agrees to the marriage and discovers his bride is as ugly as he expected and more beautiful than he could have imagined.

The noblewoman of no importance

Ildiko, niece of the Gauri king, has always known her only worth to the royal family lay in a strategic marriage. disappointing

I started off very much enjoying this story and the interaction between the two main characters. While it wasn't the type of thing I usually read it was a slice of entertaining escapism. Right up until about two thirds of the way through when it suddenly turned into just endless repetition of quite graphic sex, which I felt was unnecessary in a story like this and actually spoiled the feeling of romance. Have sex, yes, but almost 30 minutes description in one chapter alone of detailed move by move explicit bedroom antics is overdoing it. I am no prude but it was just too much, specially repeatedly and at almost every opportunity after the first romp. Sometimes implication and imagination does a better job. And when it wasn't full blown sex it was nothing but a constant catalogue of kissing and nuzzling and sucking each other's tongues and earlobes. It all became repetitive, tiresome and silly for me. Also it doesn't end properly. I know there is a book 2 which I won't be interested in now.

Horrendous Narration

This may or may not have been a good story but I just couldn't stand listening to the dreadful, limping narration long enough to find out. Yet another potentially good story ruined. In fact two stories, as Gabrielle Baker ruins the second story in this series too. Looks like I'll have to read the printed format of these books myself.

Arranged marriage love

Both the people, who are of different races, in the politicly arranged marriage accept their situation. No poor me, weeping etc they move forward and learn to love each other.
A strong story, a good listen and a good read.

Absolutely love this book but...

The narrator has a pronounced lisp, which was all I could hear, it was distracting

Boring

What can I say it was just so boring, I found myself skipping ahead a lot of the time. The narrator also had a distracting lisp.

Glad I got this audiobook; beautifully narrated

Read the negative reviews but decided to listen to the sample & found myself disagreeing with the less-than-stellar comments. Really chuffed I got Radiance especially when travelling or waiting. I am a fan of Draven’s books and have read them all - several times for ‘Radiance’ and enjoyed the narration which is superb. I have Georgette Heyer’s audiobooks too and have heard a variety of narrators. This one for Draven is making me a fan of her style!

Mesmerizing storytelling

This is one of those times, when you are happy you took a chance on a new author and one of their stories. Kind of like getting to know a new kind of poetry. The combination of this story and the narrator is surprisingly much like that. The voice of the author and the narrator, both new to me, are so mesmerizing I have been in a kind of a daze the whole time listening. Just marveling. Very happy with this experience. And be in no doubt, this story is an experience.
At first when choosing to buy this story, I was worried it would include too much dread. But no, it is perfectly balanced with the wonder of new things, good storyline, plots and soft humor of all things. Making the story light enough to be perfect for me, even with the grim bits. Really good character development and world building helps. While I hesitate on the second story in the series, seems more grim, I want the third one. Probably am too curious to skip the next though. And most probably will go there right away, am hooked on the flair of this storytelling and don´t want another voice to ruin my haze.

Wounderful and cozy read

Well written and read by a lovely voice. Contains adventure, relaxation, mystery and very seductive sex scenes, that tear your eyes by being beautiful.
