This book traces the entire arc of Ringo's remarkable life and career, from his sickly childhood to his life as the world's most famous drummer to his triumphs, addictions, and emotional battles following the breakup of the Beatles. Born in 1940 as Richard Starkey in the Dingle, one of Liverpool's most gritty, rough-and-tumble neighborhoods, he rose from a hardscrabble childhood marked by serious illnesses, long hospital stays, and little schooling to emerge, against all odds, as a locally renowned drummer. Taking the stage name Ringo Starr, his big break with the Beatles rocketed him to the pinnacle of worldwide acclaim in a remarkably short time. He was the last member of the Beatles to join the group but also the most vulnerable, and his post-Beatles career was marked by chart-topping successes, a jet-setting life of excess and alcohol abuse, and, ultimately, his rebirth as one of rock's revered elder statesmen.

Dreadful liverpool accent
Why why would someone attempt a Liverpool accent when they can’t do it, sounded like a mix between an Irish and Indian accent

Great content, terrible voice......
Love The Beatles, love Ringo. Brilliant story in this audio book but the "Liverpudlian" accent the narrator uses is horrendous. Starts out as Southern Irish, moving north before finishing in an unknown area in East End London.....
If you can get past the voice, you'll love this.

took me back
Ringos story good as other Beatles. Early part took me back to simple times like a holiday at Butlins unthinkable to youth of today.
Down side was the narrator, who made the decision to have an American with a truly awful Liverpudlian accent read a book about an English icon.

really enjoyed this book very informative loads of meat on the bone and the narrators attempt at a Scouse accent is absolutely hilarious , worth it for that alone

Worth it
We’ll-researched with a fair amount of new info, and with the Centre of Gravity as Ringo, it gives a fresh perspective on a reasonably well known story. And you could say - the Beatles did reform. It was with their beat man at the centre and the catalyst.
You will read other reviews and they will mention the ‘impersonations’ of Ringo, and they are not exaggerating. I don’t know why Audio book narrators do this! It never works! And in this book it’s only an attempt a Ringo’s accent - nobody else gets the treatment. And it’s awful. It never ‘lands’ in the NW let alone Liverpool, but ends up as some sort of Cod Irish mash-up. And I know as British I can spot this, but bear in mind how well Ringo’s almost unique tone and delivery is known worldwide as a Beatle and as a Narrator - it must crash a few US sensibilities as well! And it nearly spoils the book. Starr’s humour comes not only from his wit but also his dry, often sardonic accent, and therefore has to be delivered right.
Nevertheless, this is a full-bodied sometimes emotional, sometimes grizzly, often amusing account in which we get to know this man, who was and remains pretty much the friend of everyone. The outcome is a warts and all, and yet ultimately positive, account, of an absolute pop (and children’s entertainment) legend.
So - it’s worth your time (and patience) and I think you’ll leave a more knowledgeable reader.

Only thing that lets it down is narrator
Any additional comments?
All in all quite a nice companion book to other Beatles biographies . But the American narrator is awful . By far the worst I have heard narrating any audiobook . When he tries to do the Liverpool accent it comes out as some odd mix of Mexican and Irish .

Great
But the readers’ pronunciation is terrible plus can’t do a Liverpool accent and seems to sound weirdly Irish so I’m not sure why he’s the narrator
The story is fantastic however and I enjoyed listening

Interesting content, but shocking narration
Why did nobody think to ensure in advance that British place names were pronounced correctly? The Mercy Beat? Chizz-wick? Aaaaagh!
