Summary

John Milton travels to Bali in search of a new identity, but he can't even manage the flight without finding someone who needs his help.

A beautiful woman falls ill and confesses that she has swallowed packages of cocaine in order to smuggle it across the border. She has been forced to work as a mule by a Yakuza gang in Tokyo who are holding her child to guarantee her compliance.

Milton decides that's unacceptable and promises to lend her his help.

Good but rushed in parts.

Great story but felt a tad rushed in places. Also more time was dedicated to Milton in the bar than the planning of the end.

Very disappointed

I’m an avid follower of the John Milton series but this was the worse book by far. Pathetic bad guys weak storyline and far too long and drawn out with little action. This has been so bad that I doubt I will bother with the next instalment. This type of thriller has been saturated now and I’m afraid (in my view) John Milton has out lived his popularity. I’ve never wanted a book to finish so I can delete it from my library until now. He should have just retired in this book and settled down with Shakura. Sad to give this review but alarm bells had been ringing with the last instalment.

End of my Milton Journey

Mark is a great writer, John milton 'The Cleaner' was my first Audible read and the whole series has been enjoyable.
However my journey is over, i just feel that unlike Jack Reacher, a guy who is a free spirit and good samaritan who will never settle, John Milton's crusade for redemption has to at some point end, if he's after redemption then killing even more people will never be enough and John Milton should be able to work that out. Milton deserves peace and a happy life and for me this adventure should have been his last and would have been a great finish to a fantastic collection of books.
Cheers Mark.

My first disappointment

I’m very disappointed for the first time in this series. The storyline doesn’t resonate with with at all and the female lead character is weak and dated. Milton’s relationship with her is disingenuous and inappropriate. I’ve so loved every other book and I’m gutted.

Brilliant as always

Milton is on top form again.
I love this series and book stands out as Milton comes up against the Yakuza as well as his old demons on the streets of Tokyo.

Mark Dawson owes me a couple of nights sleep yet again.

It's John Milton but...

I love this series, they are well written, the narration is always excellent and the flawed character of John Milton always shines through in the stories. But... I have to say this is the first book that I found didn't give me 100% satisfaction.

I just didn't like the other characters very much. Particularly the female lead who frankly just seemed to spend her entire time wringing her hands in despair. I just couldn't get how Milton would see her in any way apart from the job in hand. Other characters seemed two dimensional and their roles seemed confused. It didn't hang as well together as so many of the other stories and frankly I felt the writer was sometimes out of his depth in a way he never had before.

Don't get me wrong I still enjoyed most of it. But hey ho you can't get everything right I suppose.
