A Sunday Times best seller.

The 11th classic Dirk Pitt novel, where the adventurer is drawn to a secret in the burning African desert, which could destroy all life in the world's seas.

Deep in the African desert, Dirk Pitt discovers that a top secret scientific installation is leaking a lethal chemical into the rivers, threatening to kill thousands of people - and to destroy all life in the world's seas.

To warn the world of the catastrophe, Pitt must escape capture and death at the hands of a ruthless West African dictator and French industrialist and undertake a long, perilous journey across the merciless Sahara....

I really enjoy the dirk Pitt Srries

I really have enjoyed the dirk Pitt series, the humour, action and stories have been remarkable.

Unfortunately it’s been annoying waiting for books to come out on audible in the right order, having to wait for earlier stories to come out after the latest book has been released is more than annoying.

This book has been superb, I have been waiting for this one for a long time, and it’s been worth the wait. Now it’s just waiting for the rest of them!!

Thank you for a great series, great characters and fantastic adventures.

Gripping

The production of this is very poor, chapters do not line up and cut off mid word!
Story is gripping and naration first class.

Cussler at his best

I have loved Cusslers books since discovering Raise the Titanic as a 13 year old. Now at 57 I'm still enjoying them even more. Having read Sahara on its release, buying the audiobook was a no-brainer. The narration from Scott Brick is flawless and caries the listener through the American civil war and into deepest Mali via the Niger river. This is one my favourite Clive Cussler books and although long (just under 20 hrs) it never loses pace or interest.

Great plot line probably the best of the series to this point

As per my tile great plot line the bad guys are incredibly hateable. And Dirk Pitt never disappoints

James Bond and Indiana Jones in one guy

Continuous action and adventure, but also a bit outdated cliché main character: alpha male strong in everything who is always the one solving the problems and having an easy love story with the weak woman he has to save (but duty is more important than love). After many hours it becomes tiring to already know what to expect will happen in the end. The last one and half hour were not necessary in my opinion as the main plot was resolved. So I dropped at the last 45min. I enjoyed it in the beginning but I won't get any other book of the series.

A waste of a free credit

Though an interesting concept, the story, plot and worst of all the characters are just awful.
This is a rare case wherein the film is far superior to the book upon which it is based.

The characters are two dimensional at best, and tired, racist/sexist stereotypes at worst. The main character of Dirk Pitt apparently has every skill and obscure bit of knowledge known to man, as well as being an unresistable Adonis to men and women alike. I would say that Clive Cussler is projecting himself onto Pitt except for the awful moment in which he actually inserts himself, name and all, into the narrative as a Deus Ex Machina that essentially saves the day and points the protagonists in the exact right direction.

If you like American exceptionalism and cultural whitewashing then this is the book for you.
