Summary

Secretly hooking up with the team captain's sister was a bad idea. In my defense, the first time I saw her, I didn't know who she was. Kind, gorgeous, a little naïve. Ginny brightened my world from day one. I knew I was no good for her. She was just out of a relationship, and I had a reputation for having a new girl in my bed every weekend.

I tried to do the right thing. Honest. I'm the one who insisted we should be just friends. That lasted about as long as you'd expect.

But Ginny? She's the best - best friend, best everything. So yeah, hooking up with the team captain's sister wasn't a great idea. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat.

Audiobook enhanced this great story!

I read the ebook first but when I saw that this book features Joe Arden and Vanessa Edwin, I had to listen. Well, I have to say that the story itself is awesome but having these narrators totally elevated the story itself. if you've ever listened to these narrators before, you know, they are some of the best of the bunch. Joe Arden has such an effortless way of infusing his emotion into his voice. Vanessa Edwin did awesome as Ginny. Her male voice sounded a little more forced but overall, it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story.

First, about the story. This is a new adult sports romance following hockey player, Heath (and brother to Nathan from Rebecca Jenshak's prior series, the Smart Jocks series. If you haven't listened to that series, definitely put those books on your TBL! They are amazing, especially the Fadeaway with Teddy Hamilton!)

This book- it made me swoon. Heath was a sweetheart. He was always so protective and sweet to Ginny, the sister of his team captain. They started out more as friends as both aren't sure they want to get into a relationship. But the relationship develops pretty organically and I love their banter and just their sweetness towards each other. There are some steamy parts, of course, but overall, their relationship is most defined by love and respect. The angst came from issues associated with their pasts, especially Heath's, but overall, this was a low angst romance. There were many moments when I burst out laughing and I NEED to read Maverick's book when Rebecca Jenshak writes it. Can't wait for the next one!!

2.5 stars. Underwhelming

A giggly mundane girl gets with a very typical hockey player. They do boring college stuff. The end. I didn’t feel remotely connected to the characters or invested in their relationship development. It just seemed like a relationship they would have during college before they met the person of their dreams a couple of years later. I was bored for most of the story and nearly didn’t finish it, and there were so many pointless scenes where nothing happened and it just made the book a real slog to get through.

Hockey and romance, what’s not to love!

I got sucked in right away! With compelling characters, witty conversations and a lovely romance, I loved this book.

I usually have a hard time relating to much younger characters–here they’re in college. But they’re so adorable that I didn’t mind. They don’t act like older people, nor do they act like younger kids. They’re just very young adults who discover life and love. It was nice to see them change.

I found a bit of hockey in my hockey romance, and I enjoyed that a lot.

It was a bit sexy. There’s not a lot of intimate scenes, but there’s a tension between Ginny and Heath that builds up and makes for a steamy read anyway. I also loved the flirting, it was cute and funny.

My main problem was with the onslaught of characters from other books that I didn’t care about, right at the end. They weren’t necessary, just a wink for the dedicated readers, and there were enough new characters to not need others.

It’s an interesting start of a new series. Hockey and romance, what’s not to love!

I've listened to the audiobook, and Joe Arden and Vanessa Edwin gave a new life to this story that I enjoyed. Vanessa especially--her trembling voice made me feel everything. Definitely an audiobook I recommend!
