About this listen
Cassy smiled, blew them a kiss. ‘See you in September,’ she said. It was a throwaway line. Just words uttered casually by a young woman in a hurry. And then she’d gone.
It was supposed to be a short trip – a break in New Zealand before her best friend’s wedding. But when Cassy waved goodbye to her parents, they never dreamed that it would be years before they’d see her again. Having broken up with her boyfriend, Cassy accepts an invitation to stay in an idyllic farming collective. Overcome by the peace and beauty of the valley and swept up in the charisma of Justin, the community’s leader, Cassy becomes convinced that she has to stay.
As Cassy becomes more and more entrenched in the group’s rituals and beliefs, her frantic parents fight to bring her home – before Justin’s prophesied Last Day can come to pass.
A powerful story of family, faith and finding yourself, from this hugely compelling author.

Very enjoyable
This kept me listening. The narrator is very softly spoken that fits with the story. I really enjoyed this book.

Powerful and thought provoking
This is a long novel and at times I wanted the description to cease whilst the action took over. However, beauty and solitude are described alongside a developing plot, viewed through the eyes of characters who are given depth and dimension which can’t be dismissed or written off. Consequently, it is a thought provoking novel. I had not given thought to ‘a cult’ before but the challenges go beyond simplistic solutions.
I would recommend the book. Charity Norman’s work is carefully researched and cleverly written.

Riveting Story
I thought this was a good story that leads the reader in through the eyes of the character which is a clever device. The story is both credible and leaves the reader incredulous. The ending seems a bit convoluted to keep the tension going but works okay hence only 4 stars. The narrator was good and overall I really enjoyed it.

Brilliant
I thought this book was amazing. I loved the story and could picture the island. When the mum and dad were issuing orders I was screaming at them to stop and just tell her they loved her regardless of how they felt. The characters were so well developed and I could clearly feel all there emotions.

Loved this book
I was hooked, I couldnt put it down. I loved the characters and personally I thought they were well developed. There was joy but also a lot of sadness.
I must admit, I didnt love the end, but I did still like it.

Interesting and different
I enjoyed everything about this Audible book. It’s so different to my usual crime / thriller choices . It’s good to have a change . Kept me engaged and I was constantly wondering where it was going. The narrator was excellent. I will be looking for other books by this author in the future.

I didn’t want it to end
This is my third book by Charity Norman and it didn’t disappoint. Her characters are so complex, often flawed and prone to making mistakes. It makes them so much more relatable and gives the story depth.
For this book, I could totally visualise the land Cassie found herself in and the community around her. The descriptions are so vivid and colourful, it makes for wonderful reading.
Definitely recommend her books to anyone
