Summary

Spain, July 1809

Lieutenant Richard Sharpe faces not only great danger on the battlefield but also, even more dangerous, treachery within his own ranks. But as the enemy approaches, he must pick up his rifle and prepare to lead his men against the French at one of the biggest, bloodiest fights of the war – the Battle of Talavera.

Out of the mist comes the roaring, undefeated army sent by Emperor Napoleon. Over their heads soar the Eagles, the standards touched by the hand of the Emperor himself. And boldly waiting for them is Sharpe . . .

Love the Sharpe books

The story is brilliant but Rupert Farley is not too good on the accents. All the Scots sound the same.

Otherwise supurb

The Best

I had read the whole series of Sharpe's story many years ago and watched the series on tv but I have been really pleased to be able to go through them again in this format . This is a story that will never loose it's power and I hope will be there for future generations to find and enjoy .

As Sharpe As Ever

If you've read through the books to get this far then you know what to expect, both from the pen of Cornwell and the voice of Rupert Farley. This is an excellent continuation of the series which while yes it does follow a certain formula provides seriously good entertainment.

Yes there are stupid and mean-spirited senior officers that clash with Sharpe et every opportunity and yes there is a love interest and so on but it is brilliantly done. When you're addicted to something you don't often want something different from your chosen "fix".

This one though is definitely one of the best I've read so far, lots of good action, lots of intrigue and fun dialogue and even the love interest is skillfully woven into the plot so as never to bog it down too much about our hero becoming all dewy eyed . . . again!

Once again it's a bravo to Messrs Cornwell and Farley.

Perfect Sharpe

Well read, great action filled stuff as always. Completely bonkers nonsense but some great battle details.

Nobody writes battles like Bernard Cornwell

...and what battles there are in this one! Thoroughly exciting storytelling, historical accuracy (presumably) and likeable characters in Sharpe and Harper.
