About this listen
Thoroughly divorced but ever the optimist, Pamela faces the realities of aging and the leaps of faith required to put a “sparkle” on her daily life in this humorous short story by Kate Atkinson, the bestselling author of Life After Life.
Pamela is a newly retired teacher with time on her hands. She’s finding it hard to muster enthusiasm for what’s ahead: exhausting postdivorce dating rituals and an uneasy relationship with her emotionally stunted, live-at-home son. But for Pamela, there’s a surprise in store that could challenge the status quo and, against all expectations, make life interesting again.
Kate Atkinson’s Shine, Pamela! Shine! is part of Out of Line, an incisive collection of funny, enraging, and hopeful stories of women’s empowerment and escape. Each piece can be read or listened to in a single thought-provoking sitting.

Shiny
I offer myself up to Kate Atkinson’s writing and let the fairy tale winds fill my sails.
Blissful writing.

Quirky short story
I liked it! Quirky short story from a master (or mistress rather) of character carving.
A quick read or 45 minute listen on audible
(nicely done by Gwendolyn Christie)

Witty
Even though the ending was a tad disappointing I loved this short story. It was just so well written and witty.

Bad accents
Narrator couldn't seem to decide on accents. Daughter begins with a confusing Irish accent only to become Scottish later on!?
Not the best example from K Atkinson who I usually enjoy. Two dimensional stereotypical portrayal of a menopausal woman, unrelatable.

Disappointed
Thought this would be a good read simply because of who the author was, but it was very boring, lacked content , waited for the story to start but it never did.
