Summary

The Sunday Times top 10 best seller

A divorced woman. A dangerous man. A devastating affair.

'You’re right. It is totally extraordinary. My life is like a film; you couldn’t make it up.... But there’s something I have to tell you,’ he confided, as he leaned across the table towards me. ‘I’m not normal.’

Carolyn Woods was living happily in a quiet Cotswolds village when an attractive stranger abruptly arrived in her life.

Introducing himself as Mark Conway, he exuded confidence, and to her surprise, Carolyn quickly became captivated by this mysterious man. A rich Swiss banker (who later confessed to being a spy), he offered Carolyn companionship and introduced her to an exciting, glamorous world.

In fact, some things were so astonishing she began to question her new lover. Was all as it seemed?

The truth was even harder to believe. For a start, his real name was Mark Acklom, he was wanted by Interpol, and he was rich but for one reason only....

A true-crime story that sounds like a thriller, Sleeping with a Psychopath is a blow-by-blow account of the power of manipulation and a testament to the human will to survive.

What a brave woman!

It took me a while to get into this story but once I was fully immersed and engaged with her story, I couldn’t stop listening! I had to hear that she became happy again! Great book, harrowing story. Well worth a listen. 😁

Interesting read,

This author, describes psychopathy and refers to texts , Ronson, Hare - she seems more of a psychopath than the villain of the piece. He's a con man and she fell for his ruse, I don't really get what was illegal, if she's silly enough to lend him 800 grand ? She just sounds completely self obsessed, It would be interesting to hear his side of the story

Struggled to empathise

I struggled with this book, as a true story, I cannot make comment on the plot etc. but I found it very hard to empathise with Carolyn throughout the book. It felt as though she wanted to blame everyone else for what had happened (including the police). The narrator also didn't help this as she gave the impression of being pompous.

What a strong woman.

Absolutely insane story. You can't help but feel for her, but you can see how she fell for him. Loved this book, struggled to turn it off. Please Enjoy

Good start

It started off interesting but I struggled to finish it. It became repetative and annoying

Everyone should read this!

Wow! This book is incredible! Totally honest, brutal and uncomfortable.
At times I did find myself shouting "get rid of him you silly *****" but how easy it is to judge others.
Carolyn Woods shares her story incredibly well and instead of wanting to berate I began to really cheer her on!
I won't be a "story spoiler" but I hope everyone reads this book. It's for men as much as it is women, and the narrator Jan Cramer deserves great applause.
I truly wish the author great happiness and thank you for sharing your journey.

Sleeping with a Psychopath

Outstanding book. I must admit I never heard of Carolyn Wood and what happen to her in the media or newspaper. When this title pop up on Audible I was under the impression this was fictional story. From the very beginning of the book I was hooked to the point it took me 2 days to listen to the complete story (to honest it would of taken me a day but my wife said I had to go to bed). You must have loads of people tell you strong woman you must be and you are. I have seen loads of video clips of you interviews explain how good this con man was, all I can say is I am so glad you got through this horrible saturation and beat that low life and day by day you are getting better within yourself. I real hope you book become best sale and you make loads money out of this. Plus, the more people read book like this the more aware we can be of the type of conman. Great book.

Moving account of a terrible situation

I was familiar with this story from the press and also the documentary. It is a truly awful series of events and I am sure like most people reading it I was shouting NOOOOO at the author. It is easy to see from the outside the flaws in stories Carolyn is being told but caught in the middle of it I imagine it is easy to be manipulated by a psychopath. Carolyn tells her story with honesty and bravery I have seen her interviewed on TV and she is an intelligent and charming woman who had the most dreadful experience. The only issue I have is with the narrator her voice really grates and actually portrays Carolyn as very different to how she comes across in person. I wish someone different had been chosen as I think this would have really enhanced the experience of this book.
