urg, Just lazy storytelling.
It's hard to write a review without spoilers about how lazy these books have gotten,
There's nothing wrong with the premise of the story, There's nothing wrong with the writing and certainly nothing wrong in the narration.
It's just more of what you've read in past Star Trek books, some of the lines in the book are exactly the same as have been said in the TV shows, Some of the arguments the charaters have, are the same that have been had in the movies and other books. There's no spoilers that they kill off charaters, But the reason for killing them off seems to be just to pad out a side story for a bit longer.
I won't be reading the 3rd book, am sure they will save the day and everyone will be redeems, and probably brought back to life or worse, the whole thing was a dream! (I don't know i've not read the 3rd book but that would be consistent with the just how unimaginative the storytelling has gotten)

This is an epic story and I’m sad to think there is only one more episode in this saga. Amazing fan service, glorious tie ins with previous stories and tv/movie series. So very very clever and moments of pure exhilaration and sadness when beloved characters are tragically killed.
So very happy I got to experience this!!

I'd like the cake ...
Why must the series end? This is Star Trek. There are multiple universes and it is possible to have two stories at the same time. Let us not forget there is a video game with its own story line and history.
Let me be frank, the Kurtzman-universe is not Trek. This is a truth we all must acknowledge. It is a new thing, a fine thing, but not Star Trek. It is about space fights and fighting galaxy ending threats each season. It is its own story nowadays and that is not the point. The point is that it isn't representative of the TNG, DS9, VOY Era. Discovery started it. Picard made it worse. Again, this isn't to say it was bad.
So now we have to read as the only remaining Trek is being shut down because Paramount wants only the Kurtzman timeline? Cmon.
The only reason they are shutting it down now is because it is a reminder of the old shows and they can't warp it to their own ends. As the writers want to make money, they need to do this because Beyers, the traitor, made them an offer they can't refuse.
So I am only saddened that this is the last time I will see real Trek. Right when the writers were getting everything back to exploration and interesting plot lines. I feel for them.
If I would see anything rewritten in the history of these books it would be the Borg Invasion, cut down the Section 31 stuff a bit, and redo the Data/Lal story.
Oh well ... one more book and I close down the Star Trek passion I used to have.

I read the books so the magic continues, not ends.
At the end of the this book the author states (paraphrase) that the readers are going to laugh, cry, and not know who is going to die, by the end of the next book. It sounds like the goal is to tie up all the storylines once and for all, and in doing so, end the stories that have built up since the end of DS9. What’s the point of that? I’m glad the author describes the story arc. But I would not have even started the series knowing that it’s just to end it all. Whatever.

Okay... we get it.
This is a thinly veiled plot with obvious intention of resetting the continuity of the Next Generation novels. The ultimate conclusion, is as subtle as a plane crash.
It's far from awful, but it's just not that great.

Wonderful but sad...
I found the story fascinating and sad. It was like old home week when it came to the characters I had come to know and love over the years. Like with real life all good things must have a beginning and an end. Thus many of my old friends here that I have grown to care for deeply had to exit stage left. I shall mourn their loss yet thank them for having been in my life for so very long.

Building the Crescendo!
Star Trek: Coda Book 2 does not disappoint! The author, James Swallow, picks up the literary baton and runs with all his might! Surprises abound and the plot thickens. I was thoroughly impressed with the writing, characterization, and changing tones of the story. Book 2 was, in some ways, even better than Book 1 — and I loved Book 1!
The narrator, Robert Petkoff, continues to impress as well. Familiar characters had familiar voices and it was very welcome. A real tour de force. It must be a challenge to keep them all distinct and consistent, but Petkoff manages deftly.
Highly recommended, along with Coda Book 1.

Intense, Emotional, Truly Epic
I can't get enough of this trilogy. It's clear the authors not only know their stuff but truly love this universe as much as anyone can. The emotion behind the words is evident in every bit. The only negative is that it ends.
