Summary

Padawan Reath Silas is being sent from the cosmopolitan galactic capital of Coruscant to the undeveloped frontier - and he couldn't be less happy about it. He'd rather stay at the Jedi Temple, studying the archives. But when the ship he's traveling on is knocked out of hyperspace in a galactic-wide disaster, Reath finds himself at the center of the action. The Jedi and their traveling companions find refuge on what appears to be an abandoned space station. But then strange things start happening, leading the Jedi to investigate the truth behind the mysterious station, a truth that could end in tragedy....

The "main story tie-in" of the High Republic

This feels like what the other canon novels are to the movies of the skywalker saga. A smaller scale story that occurs around the events of a movie (Light of the Jedi in this situation) and adds to the universe without contradicting the main story. It's really nice to be able to take in The High Republic era on a smalller scale and especially when the plot is engaging and all the characters are likeable.

The performance by Dan Bittner was a bit jarring at first, especially compared to Marc Tompsons excelent narration in other Star Wars audiobooks. Despite that Dan Bittner did a solid job and after a chapter or two I was immersed in the story and his narration.

Perfect follow up to Light of the Jedi for people who want to learn more about this new era of Star Wars.

Worth a shout

Slow burn but actually decent give it a go if you like the expanded universe, a new tail and the stories seem to be blending well

A great read!

The perfect stepping stone after the light of the Jedi, a story that runs along side nicely giving a new point of view, from a different part of the galaxy!

Woke

Typical new Star Wars canon. Needs a roll call of characters like the old ‘legends’ and I fear it’s trying to go woke.

A really impressive performance and thoroughly well-written characters - excellent

Following SW audiobook veteran Marc Thompson is a tough ask, but Dan Bittner really impressed me here - there's distinction between characters without any leaning into cliché or overindulgence, emotion is conveyed well and tactfully employed, and he even does a great job at maintaining consistency with Thompson's performance for Light of the Jedi when recurring characters appear.

Claudia Gray has written a wonderful book here. The characters are rich, flawed, they grow and they learn; I felt very much connected to them by the conclusion of the text. The events play out in such an exciting cascade of misadventure, cosmic calamity, and chaotic heroism, and the way in which it simultaneously tells a new story within tye High Republic setting while weaving back into the events of Light of the Jedi is tremendously satisfying.

I pretty much binged this in a single day and absolutely loved it, I'll definitely be looking forward to more from both Claudia Gray and Dan Bittner in the future.

Struggled at the start but soon got hooked

A mocking of yoda made me cringe toward the beginning. However the main characters are very interesting and there was a lot more excitement in the book than I was expecting. The sound effects and music are excellent and I Got really drawn in to the story. Well worth a listen

Not good but not bad either.

Another reasonably good High republic story. Nothing really jumps out as must read but not a bad installment of the series. I read this book as part of the comics and other stories and it was a good lore building story. Overall just very average.
