Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
From the Sunday Times best-selling author of The Unmumsy Mum
Beth has never stuck at anything.
She's quit more jobs and relationships than she can remember, and she still sleeps in her childhood bedroom. It's not that she hasn't tried to grow up; it's just that so far, the only commitment she's held down is Friday drinks at the village pub.
Then, in the space of a morning, her world changes.
An unspeakable tragedy turns Beth's life upside down, and she finds herself guardian to her teenage niece and toddler nephew, catapulted into an unfamiliar world of bedtime stories, parents' evenings and cuddly elephants. Having never been responsible for anyone—or anything—it's not long before she feels seriously out of her depth.
What if she's simply not up to the job?
With a little help from her best friend, Jory (purely platonic, of course), and her lovely, lonely next-door neighbour, Albert, Beth is determined that this time she's not giving up. It's time to step up.
This is a story about digging deep for strength you never knew you had and finding magic in things that were there all along.
Critic reviews
"Humour and heart are everywhere in this book, and I went from laughter to tears in the turn of a page. Wise, joyful and very, very funny—this is a book to devour, a book to share and a book to savour. I loved it." (Katie Marsh, author of Unbreak Your Heart)

Heartwarming and beautifully written
What an enjoyable listen, I loved the touches of Cornwall and the characters of Beth, her parents, Ted, Polly and of course, Albert 💖. I nearly cried a few times but it was heartwarming and wonderful.

Fantastic book and great performance
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book but as I really enjoy Sarah’s sense of humour I thought I’d give it a go.
Wow wow wow, it gripped me straight away and I didn’t want it to finish. I loved Beth and her adventures- so much of it felt familiar.
I also really enjoyed the narration and I’m quite picky with that.
I hope Sarah will write another novel soon, once she’s enjoyed the well deserved success this one!

The 5 star reviews weren’t wrong!
I didn’t think I would cope and would be an emotional wreck all the way through when I heard what it was about, but the great reviews gave me faith I would be ok. It is a lovely book, read beautifully, such lovely relatable characters. Great book, thank you!

Please tell me there is a sequel?
I waited for a while for this as I pre-ordered, then couldn't believe when it ended as time had just flown by! I was so lost in the story. I am just hoping there is a sequel underway, as I would love to hear how the family are getting along, because you can't help but fall in love with them.
beautifully written and narrated.

Laughed, cried and thoroughly enjoyed the whole book. So well written from start to finish. Narrator was perfect too. Big thumbs up....(not a sarcastic double!)

Loved it!
Great wee read. Like-able & relatable protagonist. Some really serious topics are covered in a realistic but sensitive way. I wasn’t expecting a tragedy at the beginning of the book but I was as gripped. Hopefully there will be a follow up

Great Book
I really enjoyed it. I cried, laughed and found it very relatable. More of the same please. The narrator was easy to listen to and read the characters well.
