Summary

Do you ever wish you could rewrite your life?

Our lives are defined by the stories we tell ourselves, but those stories aren't always true. Narratives that are based on outdated or irrelevant information can run (or ruin) our lives for years, even if those stories are wildly different from the objective reality that formed them.

In her sixth book, Tell Yourself a Better Lie, best-selling author Marisa Peer shares for the first time how Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) creates stunning in-the-room turnarounds for issues as varied as suicidal depression, eating disorders, weight loss, and life-limiting phobias and addictions.

Through 10 diverse case studies, Marisa explains how our unmet needs as children can morph into fixed stories we tell ourselves in adulthood-and, more importantly, how we all have the power to change them. If you've been longing for a happier, more fulfilled life, pick up Tell Yourself a Better Lie and take control of your own story today.

Amazing

Fascinating case studies. The book is beautifully narrated. It's a pleasure to listen to. I bought the audio first and then had to buy the paperback as well because I needed a hardcopy to highlight key points and make margin notes. A great buy and highly recommended if you are looking for some insight into how the mind covertly influences our behaviour. Great for therapists too!

Really frustrating

I really like the principals and ideas behind Marissa peers coaching however this book is basically she said he said conversation from the coaching of her clients. I’m 2 chapters in and just can’t listen to anymore.

Blown Away

I have just finished listening to Marisa Peer’s latest book and bestseller, ‘Tell Yourself A Better Lie’. I wanted to share some of the highlights and most helpful bits but it’s packed with highlights and helpful bits. Her simple yet so effective checklist has helped me so much already. The audio hypnosis recordings are like having a 1-1 session with Marisa. I know that you too will be blown away by the effectiveness of this book. The sensitive case studies really emphasise the issues that people have and how RTT helps people overcome them. Just be prepared with a box of tissues nearby but know there is a happy ending. I highly recommend this book to everyone. Helen

Compelling insight into how RTT works

A very compelling list of case-histories and how RTT can change people's 'stories' and transform their lives. I really liked the narrator's voice too which is important.

One looong advert

Here's where I'm coming from: I like Marisa, I appreciate many of her YouTube videos and definitely want an Rapid Transformational therapy session, ideally with her.

What I dislike and disagree with is her helping ppl get pregnant - considering that this planet is overpopulated and dying because of us humans. Also not sure she's qualified to speak on nutrition (unless she's championing veganism, because anything else is just cruelty and climate change).

I drag my feet a little on nonfiction books, so while I have some of her other works, this one I've completed (while doing the dishes).

And I'm pretty disappointed. I'm sorry I bought it.

It is basically one long ad for her unique course teaching RTT which is a form of therapy she developed.
I wouldn't rec this to anyone except those who are interested in being a therapist/helping ppl.

What really grinds my beans is: I can understand giving links to the audio (hypnosis etc) in other formats of this book but COME ON- *THIS IS AN AUDIOBOOK!* You couldn't have just included the relevant audio thingies in between chapters or right at the! end?! Bc hello? AUDIObook.

I'm not sure I got anything out of this; Also, there's a couple mentions of child abuse by perverts so if that sickens/triggers you too, maybe give this a wide berth.

Self-indulgent

Unhelpful as it appears to be mainly bragging about method. Not informative. Mostly self-evident.

Still reading

Im on chapter one - and I feel there should have been two readers - one person reading two dialogues - without feeling or emotion
Its too mono- tone
The reader is not representing the work marisa has done - she sounds like a robot
I feel marisa should have read this herself - her USP is herself - so very disappointing

Empowering!

Marisa’s book shines a powerful light on what plagues nearly all of us. The root cause of our pain and suffering. The harsh words, the critical words, and the lies we tell ourselves. Becoming aware of, and questioning the words and lies we tell ourselves is tremendously empowering!
Reading through the client RTT sessions was fascinating. I found a little piece of myself in each of them. Which meant for me, there breakthroughs were also mine.
Marisa simplifies the scientific research of how to use neuroscience, neuroplasticity, and root cause hypnosis to change our old thought and belief patterns. She explains what the mind’s job really is. To keep us safe and alive. Not to make us happy. That’s our job. By telling ourselves a better lie…
This book and Marisa Peer’s RTT method is impactful! I can’t wait to share it with my family and friends. It also comes with guided visualization recordings so you can start changing right now.

Extremely Useful Book

This is a really useful and practical work by Peer. It contains useful case studies and anecdotes. I would have loved a tad more empirical and scientific backup. With that said, I am sold on this method and the wisdom of Peer.

Fascinating stories

My favorite part of the book comes at the end where I was given specific rules on how to talk to myself and "self parent". I didn't grow up with the greatest family. They instilled fear in me about everything. This book showed me that I can undo the damage by being my own loving and supportive parent.

One of the best self help books I have ever read!

Truly, I received more from this book than I had ever expected. I am so grateful for the wisdom and insight Marissa shares in her book.
